nt2099 COMIC BOOK MILESTONE 9 -
THE PROTECTORS ISSUE 5 (1993) (MALIBU COMICS)

I selected this issue of the Protectors as a Milestone. No, not because it has this bloody embossed cover with a bullet hole in the middle of it but the Protectors was like the old Avengers (with a little X-Men in the mix). A group of heroes that you don't know so much about from the Malibu Universe but the storyline of the series was pretty good. Unfortunately, since it was among one of the other many comic labels out, many people missed this title.

In this issue, the director's son Richard aka Nightmask who is like DC's Robin. A man who is strong and agile but no special powers goes up against the #1 evil bad guy for the Protectors at the time, Mr. Monday.

As one of the main characters in this comic series, just looking at the cover is one thing that made you say..."Woh!" but to read the issue and see how the man is bludgeoned by the enemy was a shock. Although not as much as the impact of Robin II dying in the Batman series but nevertheless the guy most human of the group was killed and the final splashpage was enough to say that this character is definitely not coming back.
