nt2099 COMIC BOOK MILESTONE 2 -
SHOGUN WARRIORS ISSUE 10 (1979) (MARVEL COMICS)

Only those who grew up in the 70's can truly remember how important Shogun Warriors was to many children all over the country. Sure, the 1980's were popularized by Transformers and even Voltron toys but in the 70's, they were the Shogun Warriors and what's even better, they were fully die-cast metal instead of plastic. They made many toys from Shogun Warriors from small to the large plastic 2 foot or so models which cost up the yin yang on ebay. But why did I select this issue as a comic book

milestone? Why not the final issues when many of the members are wiped out by the team or Marvel had to get involved by having the enemy HYDRA in the mix.

Well, issue 10 is a milestone because of a few things. Combatra vs. Five Heads of Doom! as the dragon fireblowing hands destroy Japan but truly the reason is because it's probably one of the first early comics to portray a Japanese woman, almost like the leader of a group, whose job was a military pilot, didn't really need to wear a thong or bikini to grab attention, she kicks ass and she pilots one of the most kick ass robots in comic book history.

When you talk about Japanese girls who kick ass in comics, you think of X-Men's Psylocke and SHI but go back almost two decades earlier and you got Genji Odashu, the woman who is in charge of the Shogun Warrior: Combatra.

This issue and the next focuses on how she takes on the warrior's nemesis by her lonesome.

You maybe able to buy the whole collection of Shogun Warriors comic books real cheap on ebay.
