Subject: [POLL] ** RESULTS OF THE R.A.A FAVORITES POLL **

The 1994 R.A.A Favorites Poll has come to a close, and man oh man, what a
poll it was!  I had hoped, optimistically, for 150 votes.  Instead, a last
minute barrage brought the final total to 163!!  And take a look at the
results.  We have blowouts, we have squeakers, and we have TWO TIES!

Two things surprised me in this poll:  first, the sheer volume of the
response.  Secondly, the knowledgability of these "new" fans.  Past polls were
filled with "holes", votes for unknown quantities that needed to be filled in
by the readers.  For those who enjoyed the impromptu trivia contest, I'm
sorry to tell you that there are almost no such holes in this poll.  There
were very few to begin with, and I filled in most of them with the help of a
friend.  It seems fans these days are paying attention to such "trivia" as
who acted whom and who directed what.

Okay, let's get on with the results!  By the way, there's rarely such a thing
as the perfect poll.  If you catch any mistakes, let me know.

The Favorite Movie category had a seemingly predictable ending, with WINGS OF
HONNEAMISE taking the title for the third consecutive year.  But before you
bemoan the fact that nothing changes in fandom, take a look at the margin of
victory.  NAUSICAA and LAPUTA both held leads at one point, and in the end
it could have gone any of three ways.

No?  Well, then it must be RANMA 1/2.  Try again!  MAISSON IKKOKU came from
behind on the LAST DAY to win, ending the most exciting poll race I've ever
watched!  The three series danced around like sprites, trading leads daily.

It's obvious which two OAV series stole the hearts of anime fans last year.
It equally obvious that there's no choosing between them.  TENCHI MUYO! and
OH MY GODDESS! ended a long, pitched battle in a stalemate.  Maybe we just
like OAV series with exclamation points in their names... :-)

The other tie in this poll: between a jet that transforms into a humanoid
robot, and a humanoid robot that's always a humanoid robot.  The Ingram 
looks way cool, I'll grant, but I can't help but wonder if it would have
gotten so many votes if Izumi hadn't given it the cute name.  :-)  Ryo-oh-ki
did well too, being one of the few characters eligible for two categories...

only 15 votes for Miyazaki?  Who do you think wrote NAUSICAA, which almost

As I expected, the actress category was much more highly participated than
that for the male actors.  As you might expect, Ranma 1/2's Megumi
Hayashibara took top honors, but by only one vote!  Just missing at number
two was Kikuko Inoue, beloved for her role as the large-chested, oversexed
nurse in O-GENKI CLINIC.  Oh, and she played Belldandy, too.  :-) :-) :-)

Here's a feather for Viz to stick in their collective cap.  Their RANMA 1/2
has won the Favorite Dubbed Production category for the second year in a
row.  This year, I feel the category meant more than in past years, since it
was well-participated.  The last two years the Dub category was often shunned.
Sadly, Tenchi Muyo drops to a disappointing third after having lost by only 
one vote last year.  Of course, that TOTORO dub is hard to beat...
