Hope you like the story, and don't blame me if facts are not true to life. I've never tried to do most of these things. That morning, Usagi had gotten clothing out of her room without her parents seeing her. There was a close call when Luna came, hoping to wake Usagi up, but Usagi was able to retrieve her stuff without Luna finding her. After she had gotten all of her things, Usagi returned to the roof where Mamoru had told her to wait for him. She sat down to wait for him for what seemed like hours before Mamoru actually appeared. "Alright, Usako, I've found... what's wrong?" "Mamo-chan... I have to tell Luna where we're going." "Uh..." Mamoru sighed. "Usagi..." "Luna won't tell anyone, and who'd think a cat would talk anyway? Whoever they were, they won't think of getting Luna to tell them." "No, but Luna might tell your friends, who might... Look, you can't tell her. Promise me you won't tell her, Usako." "I- Alright, I promise. Everyone's going to be so worried when we dissappear without telling anyone." She shook her head. "I know. I know." Mamoru took Usagi's hand. "It'll be alright, and that's a promise, okay?" Usagi nodded reluctantly. "Now, we're going to be going to- well, to somewhere. I've got some papers for both of us and-" "Where'd you get them, Mamo-chan?" He licked his lips and looked down at Usagi. "Don't ask that, Usako. How good is your english?" "My marks are bad in english, you know that. How are we...? Mamo-chan, how is this going to help us? No country just lets people in. We'll just have two sets of people after us." "No, no... There are some people who are going to hire me over there, I've some friends there, and you'll be going to some school, I think..." "Oh. But how is that...?" "Don't worry about it, Usako. I'll take care of it." Usagi blinked up at Mamoru. She looked as though she was going to say something, and instead closed her mouth. "It'll be okay." "Mamo-chan, what about Chibi-usa?" Mamoru looked out over the rooftops. "She'll stay here. She'll be alright." "Okay, then. When are we leaving?" "In an hour. I- I know it's soon, but the sooner we leave, the sooner we'll be safe." "If you say so. Could I go talk to the rest of the senshi? Tell them that we're going away, even if they don't know where we're going, at least..." Usagi looked up at Mamoru. "I just want to talk to them." "Alright, Usako." Mamoru smiled. "Go talk to your friends, say goodbye. Meet me back here in half an hour, okay? We'll go straight to the airoport from here, and then... Go on." Usagi smiled at Mamoru before hurrying off to find her friends. "I just hope that we'll be safe there. It frightens me that they did nothing to us at midnight, and instead, tried to... beat us up? I suppose that's what it was. Maybe they were going to kill us..." Mamoru sighed. "Ah, Usako... why do you have to be so right for me? Maybe if you weren't, I could have given you up, and... But I couldn't do that again. One time was too much. For both of us." Mamoru shook his head. "I suppose that I should go say goodbye to people too, but how will I know if they are against me or not? It's safer not to say anything. Who'm I kidding? It would be safer to forsake my love and stay in Japan. But I can't do that. I just can't. And who knows... they might not even accept that anymore. I already talked to Futaki about this, and... 'close your heart, Mamoru. If you close your heart and your mind, then no one can touch you, and no one can harm you.' I learned that a long time ago. Why is it so hard to live by it?" "Usagi..." breathed Mamoru. "I love you far too much...." "Mamoru! Chiba-san! Mamo-chan... Any more names you call yourself, kid?" "Who-" Mamoru whirled to find himself facing Mister Retsim, the leader of the group that had targeted him. "Shit!" Mamoru turned to run, but he found the muscle of the group had encircled him and wouldn't let him leave. He turned back to face the leader of the Horus group. "Well, looks like you can't run anymore, Chiba." Retsim's eyes narrowed and he leaned towards Mamoru. "What did you think you were going to do? Skip town, maybe? Or perhaps the entire country? You aren't the first person we've been after, Chiba-san. Possibly you are the first to escape our time-manipulators, but we won't try that again, so it doesn't really matter. I see your girlfriend's run off. To her friends, maybe? Or perhaps to her parents? Was she actually going to come with you, do you think? They never do come, you know. You look afraid. Don't worry, Chiba." He nodded and Mamoru's eyes widened further as the dart hit his shoulder and he blacked out. "Mamoru and I are going, and I just thought you might like to know, that's all!" "Look, if you two are going on a vacation, that's fine, you don't have to brag about it. It's not as if I care what you two do." "But you don't understand, Rei-chan! I don't even know when we're coming back. If..." "Usagi-chan, 'if' what?" "I don't know *if* we're coming back." "What?!" Minako came through the door of the book store where Usagi had found Rei. "What are you talking about?" "I'm going away..." said Usagi. "And she just said she can't tell us where she's going, and she can't tell us *if* she's coming back. She's going with Mamoru-san," said Rei quietly. "With... Oh, I get it! Is it a honeymoon, Usagi? Did you two secretly marry and..." "It's not a joke, Minako! Mamo-chan didn't even want me to tell you that we were going anywhere. There are some people after him, I think, and they tried to kill us... I'm worried, and Mamoru just says that he'll take care of everything... He said that if I tell you where we are going, then the people might try to kill you to get the information, or just do something to make you give it to them, or..." "They can't do anything to make us tell where you're going, if it's that important," said Minako seriously "Oh, yeah? What if they were to set explosives in Rei-chan's temple, or in a school or something, and then told you to tell them where we were or else?" "Umm... I- uh..." said Minako. "Or if they said that they would kill everyone who passed by until you told?" "How would they even know we had the knowledge, Usagi-chan? And if they'd do that without knowing for sure, then they'll do it anyway," said Rei. "I-" "And why's he having you go with him, anyway? He shouldn't want to bring you into a dangerous situation like that! And he knows it's dangerous if they're after him like that, Usagi," said Minako. "Well, I- They're after him because of me, and he thinks that if he goes out of the picture, they'll just kill me... and anyway, I *want* to go with him. I wouldn't leave him now," said Usagi. "I can't get you not to go, Usagi, but I'm not happy about this," said Rei. "Neither am I. Who are these people?" asked Minako. "I dunno. Oh, I'm going to be late. Tell Mako-chan and Ami-chan that I've gone, and say goodbye to Chibi-usa-chan for me, please?" "Alright, Usagi-chan," said Minako. "But I still think that this is a bad, bad idea. Go on, don't be late." "G'bye, Usagi." "I'll miss you all," said Usagi as she rushed through the door. "He's in with some bad people. I hope Usagi will be all right," said Rei. "He loves her. I don't think he'd let anything happen," said Minako. "I hope not..." "Mamo-chan! Mamo-chan, where are you? I thought I was going to be late... Mamo-chan, are you here anywhere?" Mamoru blinked back tears. "Leave her alone, please," he whispered. The goon pulled back Mamoru's head for his trouble. "Chiba-san, shut up. We do what we please, you know that," said Retsim. "And what we please right now," he laughed a little. "What we want now is to get your girl there, to ensure that you don't get the idea of leaving any time soon. Then, we'll hold your trial." "Trial!? From a bunch of...?" said Mamoru. Retsim frowned. "You had better learn some respect," he said, as he closed Mamoru's mouth. Retsim pointed at two members of the group. "Go get her, bring her back here. Unharmed," he said as an afterthought. "Nothing you can do now, Chiba-san. But she'll share your fate. You should have given her up while you had the chance." "Usako, run!" Mamoru tried to scream the words to her, but they barely came out as a whisper. "You have to go, Usa-" Retsim slapped Mamoru. "I said shut up. Do you understand that?" There was a tense silence for a moment before Mamoru nodded. Below, on the next rooftop, the two men donned their hoods and grabbed Usagi, who screamed loudly before having something shoved violently into her mouth. She was tied up and slung over one of the men's shoulders and brought up to the higher roof on which Mamoru was held. The men behind him then took his bound wrists and tied them to his feet and picked him up off of the ground. "Let's go," said Retsim, and he pressed a button on a control pad of some sort. A helicopter came into view. Mamoru and Usagi were thrown unceremoniously onto the floor of the vehicle followed closely by Retsim and his people. One of them took the controls of the helicopter, and the blades slowly began rotating. The helicopter left the ground, and Mamoru closed his eyes as he saw the tears forming in Usagi's. They were thrown into a dark room and Mamoru sat up while his eyes tried to adjust. Usagi had her head in his lap and she was sobbing softly as Mamoru stroked her hair. "It'll be okay, Usako. I promise you that, my darling Usagi." There was a very dim light coming in from the cracks around the door, but the room still seemed as black as the darkest night. "Mamo-chan...?" whispered Usagi. "Who are these people?" "I- I don't know who they are." "You do, Mamo-chan. I saw the way they looked at you and you looked at them... I-I know that they know you and you know them... You must know them, Mamo-chan! Why would they do this to us if you don't know them? I don't know who they are, but people like this don't simply choose people at random to kidnap, do they...? Why don't you trust me?" There was a silence, and the only sound was that of the two breathing. "Let me untie you, beloved. I trust you, Usako. I love you, how could I not trust you? I don't know them." Usagi sat up and put her head on Mamoru's shoulder. "Then I'll believe you, but... It makes no sense." Mamoru said nothing, and simply kissed the top of Usagi's head. She giggled. "You know, there was a time when I'd have done anything to get you just to talk to me like this... To tell me you trusted me and that you love me, and now, here we are... Only, I wish we didn't have to talk here at all, and that we could go home..." "I know, Usagi. I know." "And... and now we're alone in a dark room... and Ijust want to go home... and... oh... I'm so tired, Mamo-chan... what's going on...? Why's it so dark...?" "So full of questions, Usako. Go to sleep if you're tired, beloved." "I'm scared... what if I never wake up...? Mamoru..." "Shhh. It's going to be okay, I promise. Have I ever broken my promises to you, beloved?" "Nnnnno." Usagi sighed and fell asleep. "Usako... What am I going to do? What did I think I was doing, promising that everything will be okay? With these people... I doubt it can be okay. It's not right that you should be in here. I can't even tell you why we're here. You would never understand, would you, Usako... I couldn't blame you, either. And why should you have to understand why someone who you loved would ever join something like this? You shouldn't, of course. Someone who'd loved you as much as he should have would never have joined these people, no matter how much he needed to." Mamoru stroked Usagi's hair. "Lovely girl, you could never understand me joining the yakusa. How would you understand me leaving them too? I hope that Chibi-usa will be okay, even if we aren't. Futaki said he'd watch her, but what can he do if these people go after the poor kid? Nothing. Why did I have to do this? Because you needed the money, Mamoru. And becuase you're an idiot, obviously." He sighed. "Usagi's got the right idea. I think that I'll go to sleep too." Mamoru fell asleep, still holding Usagi in his arms. "Mamo-chan, of course I still love you," said Usagi, looking up sleepily into Mamoru's face after he was asleep. "How could you think that I wouldn't love you just because you made a mistake? I hope Chibi-usa's okay too." After a while, Usagi fell into true sleep. The door opened and a bright light shone at Mamoru's face. "Chiba-san, you have a hearing in a moment. It is suggested that you wake your girlfriend and get ready." Mamoru nodded under the harsh light before the door was closed and he was left with Usagi in darkness again. "Usagi, darling, wake up, hmm? Come on, wake up..." "No, I don't want to wake up, mother... The alarm clock hasn't gone yet... School is so far away, not now, don't want to wake up..." "It's me, Mamo-chan. Come on Usako, wake up. We have things to do today." "Oh, like what...? I want to sleep. Let me sleep please." "Usagi, wake up," said Mamoru. "Don't wanna." "Usagi, wake up." "Nooooo..." "Usagi!" shouted Mamoru. "Huh? Why'd you have to yell, Mamo-chan?" Mamoru shook his head and pursed his lips. "Don't worry. Are you awake, beloved?" "Mmm hmm. We're still here, I guess." Mamoru smiled at Usagi. "Yes, we are, Usako." The door opened again. "Good. Are you two ready to go? Not that I care, really. Get up." Usagi and Mamoru stood as the man began aiming a kick at them. "Follow me. There will be people armed with guns behind you at all times, and anything that looks like an escape attempt will get you both killed." He nodded, and motioned for Usagi and Mamoru to follow him, which they did. They walked through a seemingly endless set of corridors. There was a corridor with paintings, and one with machines; another had statuettes and busts, and yet one more had a set of doors. There were many more corridors, containing everything from computers to round stones. Finally, Mamoru and Usagi were stopped in front of an ornate door. One of the guardsmen opened the door and motioned for them to enter. Inside the room, a large man with a mean-looking face stared at Usagi and Mamoru from behind a desk. He looked at Mamoru who had to keep himself from cringing beneath his gaze. Usagi, who wasn't at all worried about appearing strong and was having enough trouble keeping her terrified mind from making her scream, grabbed Mamoru and buried her face in his shirt. "I think that you know the charges against you. The only thing which you have any control over is your sentance. You have a choice in that, though not much of one. We do not take kindly to traitors, Chiba-san. You can die with your lady or without her, but both you and she will die." "With her, I suppose," said Mamoru. "Alright. You will die via gas. Carbon monoxide for you both, I think. Now, if you will sign these, we will not have to kill you more painfully than that." He handed papers to Usagi and Mamoru, both of which signed everything they owned to someone named Drogenite as well as apologizing for suicides. "Sign it, Usagi," said Mamoru when Usagi looked up at him questioningly. He wrote his name on the note that they had given to him then looked up at the man. "Why don't you just have someone forge them?" "Takes a little more effort, Chiba-san," he said, taking the papers from them. He nodded at the guards. "Not much, though. Chamber 8." The were led out of the office and into the corridor. "Any last requests?" asked the main guard. "We might not grant it, but hey, what can you lose, hmm?" "I- We would like to see the sun one more time, or at least the sky..." "Common request. Well, since we can kill you anyhow, it doesn't really matter too much. We'll take you outside, then we'll take you to your deaths." Mamoru nodded. It took a while, but they soon came to a door. Usagi looked ready to run, but before she could try, she heard Mamoru breath, "Not yet, Usako." She looked up at Mamoru and he smiled at her. They breathed in the fresh cool air before being taken back inside. They both wondered why the air was cool, but neither asked their captors or each other. The sun showed that it was just past noontime. Mamoru took careful note of which corridor they turned down and what was around. Usagi walked behind him, tears of fear in her eyes. After what seemed to Usagi to be only a few moments, they arrived at a door with the number 1 inscribed upon it. The next was 2, and so on until they arrived at number 8. The head guardsman opened the door and pushed Usagi and Mamoru into the room, and the lock clicked into position as the man closed it. That was when Usagi began to cry. Violently. Mamoru took her into his arms and rocked her gently. Outside the door, he could just hear the switches being thrown and the guardsmen walking away laughing. "Shhh, Usako, it's time to leave." "But how... how can... we leave... when the door's locked and.... and the guards are out there... and..." "For some reason, the guards always leave after they've thrown the switches. And I've got a key." "How...?" "Don't ask, Usako." He shook his head at her and fit the small key into the lock. When the lock clicked, Mamoru gently pushed the door open, and took Usagi's hand. "Be quiet, okay?" Usagi nodded and Mamoru closed the door after they had both slipped through. He led them both through the convoluted series of passages, until they reached the door that led outside. He opened the door a crack and waited, then did the same process until the door was open just enough for them both to exit the building. They both left and Mamoru repeated what he had done to open the door, except that this time he used it to close the door. It was only a little before sunset by the time the two had snuck out of the entire area. After they were out of the region, they hid in an alley for a while, which was something that Mamoru insisted upon just in case they had been followed. After the sun had set, he and Usagi crept out of the alley. They walked to a park Mamoru had noticed while the two had been trying to hide from the yakusa. They found a bench and sat down. "Go to sleep now, Usako. I know it's not late, but-" "Excuse me, what are you two doing in this park?" asked a voice in English. "Uh... pardon me?" said Mamoru. "What did she say, Mamo-chan?" asked Usagi. "Japanese? Ooookaaaay." The owner of the voice walked into the sight of Mamoru and Usagi. "What are you both doing here?" she asked in Japanese. "You two are destroying the Balance." Her last word was spoken in English. "Who are you two?" "I'm Chiba Mamoru. Don't think I caught your name." "Sorry. My name's Sun. The Mage Sun. Now, what are you doing here, and who is she? I followed you from the Headquarters. Are you two working with them?" "What do you mean, 'what are we doing here?' We have as much right as anyone to be here." "True, unfortunately. Well, I can't do anything about you two tonight, but I'd like you to both go back to Japan, please." "Where are we now?" "Canada. Toronto, Canada. I'd ask you to both be careful. This is a dangerous area at night. Bad things happen here." "Is that some sort of a threat?" asked Mamoru. "No," said Mage Sun with a laugh. "But there are bad people around here. Are you two... no, you couldn't be. They wouldn't leave, would they...? Anyhow, goodbye." The girl melted off into the shadows. "Toronto, Canada," said Mamoru. "Canada? We can't be in Canada! That's too far away, Mamo-chan! We can't be in Canada. I mean, isn't that in Europe?" "It's in North America, Usako, and it looks like that's where we are. I don't see any reason why that girl would have lied to us. We're not in Tokyo anymore, Usa." Usagi clung to Mamoru as the stars came out. "No. I guess we're not." And if you really hate Toronto and don't want any more of the story to be set here, well then that's too bad because I've never been to Tokyo.
