Several members of the TM cast are present: Ryoko is in the front row, looking confident and smiling a small, private smile. Aeka sits two chairs away, fairly expressionless. Ryo-ohki sits on the chair between them, being typically cute. Sasami and Mihoshi are seated behind them, engaged in incomprehensible girl talk. Washu stands off to one side, holding a datapad and discussing something with Kagato and Yosho. Tenchi and his grandmother are engaged in conversation with Kiyone and a hologram of Tsunami. Washu's datapad beeps several times. She studies it for a moment, then nods to Yosho and hands the datapad to him. As Yosho moves toward the front of the assemblage, with Kagato not far behind, everyone quiets down and looks forward in anticipation.] {NOTE: I'm using the American voice actors here. -RT} RYOKO [grinning] All right, time to get the truth out once and for all. [she turns to Tenchi and winks seductively] Hey Tenchi! Does the winning lady get a special present from anyone? TENCHI Er... AEKA [huffs] *Really*, Ryoko. *Must* you always think that way?? RYOKO Oh, like the thought never crosses *your* mind, little princess. I bet you'd just *love* to know. (sigh) I'll have to tell you all about it when I win. [Aeka colors a bit and glares at her, but makes no comeback. Tenchi tries not to think about what's on Ryoko's mind, as Yosho stands at a podium and speaks:] YOSHO Well now, it looks as though the final results for the Miss Tenchi-Muyo contest have arrived at last. The votes have all been entered and added up. As you know, voters were allowed to list second and third choices, and all those votes have also been considered in the tabulation. [He hands the datapad to Kagato] The results, if you would? [Yosho steps down and Kagato takes his place. He peers at the datapad for a moment and arches an eyebrow, then speaks:] KAGATO These are the official results. It appears we've had a *very* close contest. RYOKO [unimpressed] Yeah yeah... so did I win? [Kagato ignores her.] KAGATO Here are the results as they've been tallied. In addition, one write-in vote was received for Ryo-ohki, and another for Tenchi's grandmother. GRANDMOTHER [smiling gently] I'm flattered. RYO-OHKI Myaa!! [A display appears on a projection screen behind him.] . RESULTS OF THE MISS TENCHI-MUYO POLL, 199409.19-199409.26-!- (COMPILED VOTES) RYOKO - 14 AEKA - 14 WASHU - 8 SASAMI - 7 TSUNAMI - 7 KIYONE - 3 MIHOSHI - 3 RYOKO [wide-eyed] WHAAAT?!? AEKA Oh *my*... TENCHI [muttering to himself] Why am I not surprised...? [Yosho regards the screen with arched eyebrows, as does Kagato.] YOSHO *Hm*...... KAGATO Well well well, it seems Ryoko and Aeka have tied for first place. Very interesting. [Ryoko leaps to her feet.] RYOKO No way! No way!! Recount! This can't be right!! How many *first choice* votes did I get, huh?? I don't wanna be tied with *HER*!! AEKA [sarcastic] Why whatever is the matter, Ryoko? Afraid of a little competition from a *YOUNGER* woman?? Dear me, what a *horrible* thought. [Ryoko growls and looks like she's about ready to beat Aeka senseless, and Aeka looks all too happy to take her on. Tenchi decides he'd better intercede:] TENCHI Ladies, please! [Ryoko and Aeka wheel and glare at him.] RYOKO & AEKA WHAT?! TENCHI [shrinks back] Er... never mind. [Just then Mihoshi leaps to her feet and points at the screen, distracting Ryoko and Aeka and everyone else in an instant.] MIHOSHI Kiyone! LOOK!! KIYONE [on her feet immediately] What?! What is it?! [Mihoshi looks at Kiyone with a big smile.] MIHOSHI [very enthusiastic] We're *tied* for *fourth* place!! [Everyone facefaults. Kiyone just sort of looks back at Mihoshi, a large sweat bead tricking down her forehead.] KIYONE Er... yeah... Great... [Just then the datapad starts beeping again.] KAGATO Hm? [He studies it more closely, then looks up.] Just a moment, ladies and gentlemen. [Pause as he reads.] Hm... It seems there's one final vote coming through, which was unavoidably delayed... It's the vote of the poll moderator! [Ryoko and Aeka immediately lean in a lot closer.] RYOKO So, did he vote for me?? Huh?? KAGATO Now now, Ryoko, calm yourself. [He reads for a moment.] Well. It seems we now have a definite first-place winner. AEKA Well?? Who is it??? [Kagato regards Aeka and Ryoko for a long moment, and they look right back at him anxiously. Then he speaks.] KAGATO Very well. Here are the new results. [Cut to a closeup of his hand as he presses a button on the pad's surface...... ......and roll closing credits. Stay tuned for the next episode!] - - - . {Okay, that was a cheap shot, I know, but I would like to avoid bodily harm from a certain female, thank you very much. Here come the results, for real. . -!!!!- POLL RESULTS (including my vote this time) >>> AEKA - 15 RYOKO - 14 WASHU - 8 SASAMI - 7 TSUNAMI - 7 KIYONE - 4 MIHOSHI - 3 RYO-OHKI - 2 GRANDMA - 1 My vote was as follows: 1. Aeka 2. Kiyone 3. Ryo-ohki Believe me, choosing between Aeka and Ryoko was rough, because they both have qualities I like. I'd've preferred to cast a vote for both of them, but then they most likely would *both* have killed me. Oh well. Aeka won out because, to paraphrase one voter, she's vicious in a civilized kind of way. She's also very proper and refined, not to mention well-dressed, and she just looks good no matter what she's doing, IMHO. Kiyone got the second vote because she's the *other* type of girl I'm a sucker for: the tough fighter with her own life to lead, and who still manages to remain incredibly sexy. (As I understand it, she'll be playing a bigger part in the new Tenchi Muyo TV series which is under construction right now. I'm looking forward to that.) And of course I had to put in a vote for Ryo-ohki. She is, after all, far too cute to leave out of the equation. And if the TM people ever decide to market Ryo-ohki dolls, I'll put in an order for one right away. :) Well, that's it. And I need to get out of here before Ryoko catches up with me.
