So, this //// / issue Mark Lee offers us the first selection //// / of JPop videos. \\\\/ Oh yeah, up until last issue I hadn't bought anything from CD Ichiba, but now I'm happy to say that I bought a couple of 3 cassettes from Richard Pulley. I got the goods, Richard got the cheque and everyone is happy. Thanks Richard. ============================================================================ This Issues Selection ============================================================================ Ok, here's this issues selection. Following the traders name and e-mail address I've tried where possible to list the album title, artist, format, and suggested price. When I started CD Ichiba I figured that it would get to the stage where we'd have huge 'Wanted' lists and very few items to trade. Well it looks like I was wrong. Most traders are willing to consider any offers for the items they have on offer. So if there's something in the lists below that you want contact the trader via e-mail and work out some kind of deal. Since this is an international publication remember that any prices will be in the traders currency and that video formats vary from place to place. 4 You may like to read the section "Carrying Out a Successful Trade" below. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mark C. This is the story I've heard from a couple of people recently so with a bit of help from Craig Oshiro and Tremale Turner this issue and past issues are available via FTP and on the World Wide Web. Via The World Wide Web : If you've got Mosaic or whatever and can access the WEB you can get CD Ichiba (and other crazy information) from Tremale Turner's home page at the following address : html// While you're there check out the link to the JNTO Travelling in Japan Guide. Via FTP : If you have access to FTP you can get CD Ichiba and a whole lot of other cool stuff (yes, including pictures) from Craig Oshiro's ftp site at the 2 following address : 128.171.45.7 In the directory : pub/jpn/misc/info Via The Jpop Mailing List : If you just happened to stumble upon CD Ichiba while touring the net and don't know already, there's a mailing list for the discussion of JPop music on the Internet. To subscribe to JPop mailing list send e-mail to Majordomo@tcp.com and include the command subscribe jpop in the body of your message. If you don't know how to access the Web or how to use FTP consult your local guru and get them to point you in the right direction. ============================================================================ Carrying Out a Successful Trade ============================================================================ OK, so you want to trade with someone listed in CD Ichiba, whats preventing the person you are trading with from ripping you off ? Hopefully their conscience will. The whole system is based on honesty, I'd like to think that we are all honest adults but undoubtedly there is someone out there just waiting to screw the whole system up. Please read the Disclaimer at the end of this document. More specifically please read Disclaimer No. 2 at the end of this document. Here are a few suggestions on how to carry out a 'reduced risk' trade : - Decide via initial e-mail contact if you really want to trust the person on the other end of the deal. (Tough call) Try to work out a deal you both agree on before parting with any cash or goods. - One of the best ways to ensure you get what you paid/traded for is to send goods COD (Cash On Delivery) wherever possible. COD works like this :You pay the post office (PO) to send your goods to the PO nearest the person you are sending them to. The receiving PO posts a letter to the person you are trading with to tell them there are goods to the value of $##.## waiting to be picked up. The PO will release the goods only after payment has been made and will send you a cheque. If the goods are not picked up after a predetermined period they will be returned to the sender by the PO. Charges for COD vary but it is undoubtedly one of the safest ways to trade since the PO is an impartial party in the whole transaction. If trading multiple goods send them one at a time as a series of small trades rather than in one batch. That way if you get stungit's only for one item.- If someone takes you down let me know and I'll ensure that theirname does not appear in CD Ichiba in the future. Any further ideas to prevent being ripped off greatly appreciated. Please mail them to me. ============================================================================ Contributing to CD Ichiba ============================================================================ CD Ichiba can only continue to be an effective buy/trade/sell magazine if there are people out there with items they are willing to trade therefore if you have anything at all JPop related to sell of trade why not e-mail me (Byron.Kidd@its.utas.edu.au) and I'll include it in the next Issue. Relevant items may include : CD's VideosPostersRecordsMagazinesCalendarsCassettes Laser Disks Anything JPop related Occasionally I'll include an article about something I found interesting or useful and thought others might too. So, If you have any other bits of information such as this which you think others may be interested in send it to me and I'll see that it's included in the next issue. Oh yeah, if you make any successful trades can you notify me before the next issue comes out so I can remove those items from your list? That way you don't keep getting mail to trade stuff you don't have any more. ============================================================================ CLOSING WORDS ============================================================================ Here we are at the end of Issue 3. As I said earlier, it looks like the concept is catching on and with any luck CD Ichiba will survive for a while yet thanks to a group of dedicated traders. To anyone who's interested, after last months article on creating liners for cassette cases where I moaned about not having a CD player in my car I went out and came sooo close to buying one. Sooo close infact that I had the money out of the bank and was on my way to buy one when I paused and thought 'Hey..this is a lot of cash' and then I thought 'Whats wrong with listening to cassettes in the car? After all it is a *car* and not a *night club*'. It was about then that I turned around and deposited my money back into the bank. I don't really *need* a CD player in car I keep telling myself...after all I only have a 15 minute commute to and from work each day. Looks like I'll be creating cassette liners for a little longer yet. Oh yeah, I really look forward to receiving the Oricon Charts from the list every month which prompts me to ask : Is there anyone out there who recieves Jpop magazines who would mind putting together a post once in a while containing 'snippets' of news for those of us in the information starved areas of the world? Just a thought. I'll go now. Feedback, comments, like it, don't like it, let me know there's always room for improvement. Good luck in your search.
