Once had to sing in front of all my co-workers at Matsushita in Tokyo. Did OK, though, and managed to get invited to a bunch of other OL karaoke trips. > #3: Do you dance when you sing those JPOP songs? I don't sing Shonentai songs. > #4: Any memorable moments? Once went with a really good bunch of people (karaoke veterans) and we sang Nagabuchi's "Kampai" as a last song -- in four-part harmony. It'd make you cry. > #5: Your latest JPOP karaoke moment The Korean karaoke joint got busted by cops on an alcohol raid about five minutes after we got there. I got pissed off because they wouldn't give us a refund or credit or whatever, so I started arguing with the goddam clerk. He wouldn't do anything for me, so wuss-ass calls for the mama-san to help out. So after I made threats about the BBB and the INS, they gave me the owner's phone number. But not after waving the security guys in my face. Oh well. It was fun. True story. As long as I'm posting... TOP FIVE SINGERS Women: Iwasaki Hiromi -- classy; not many voices like this nowadays. Shirasaki Emi/Nishikawa Satoko -- Shang Shang's fine duo, a tribute to phrasing, effect, and harmony. Misora Hibari -- hate to admit it, but she can really sing. Nomiya Maki -- the perfect picture of STYLE; made P5 what it is. Can't remember her name -- Orquesta de la Luz's singer; her voice is ON FIRE. Men: Ozaki Yutaka -- it's really hard to sing for an hour sounding like you're getting a hernia. Kuwata Keisuke -- countless weak imitations. Fujii Fumiya -- if only for that one acoustic "True Love" he did this past year at that dude's wedding. That's it. Can't think of any more dudes.
