One of my favorite vocalists coming from Japan right now is Tibetan singer alan (Alan Dawa Dolma). Literally, every CD single that she has released has been quite captivating as we get solid vocals, especially how she utilizes her Tibetan wail in her songs and occasionally we hear her playing the erhu.
With “BALLAD ~Namonaki Koi no Uta~” (BALLAD ~Unknown Love Song~), her 11th CD single, the song is used as a theme for the film “BALLAD ~Namonaki Koi no Uta~” starring SMAP’s Tsuyoshi Kusanagi and Yui Aragaki. The song utilizes her angelic voice quite well and we get a little of that Tibetan wail but the piano and orchestral accompaniment makes this single so enchanting and captivating. Another wonderful ballad from alan.
As for the coupling track, we get her third single “Shiawase no Kane” (Bells of Happiness) but a 2009 version. The original single was only released as a digital single and proceeds went to the survivors of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. The version included on this CD single is another captivating ballad featuring alan’s beautiful vocals with piano and strings accompaniment.
The remaining two tracks are instrumental tracks of both songs.
CD insert includes lyrics and production credits to the song. A mini-flier inside the insert features information on alan’s upcoming performance for January 2010.
Overall, another captivating single featuring two ballads showcasing alan’s beautiful vocals along with enchanting music! Definitely recommended!
