Tokyo Street Style / Style-Arena Picks of the Week

October 1, 2008 by KNDY · Leave a Comment

It’s our Tokyo Street Style Picks of the week from this week’s Style-Arena fashion showcase courtesy of the Japan Fashion Association:

HARAJUKU: Harajuku, the city where “Anything Goes” for fashion.   It’s hot and humid, why not accentuate something simple with a jacket.  A simple but cool outfit.

SHIBUYA: Shibuya is all about “trendy” and this week’s Shibuya fashion was about average.  And for the week, I chose this woman.  A really nice fall outfit and something different to feature from the city without a woman wearing boots all the time.

OMOTESANDO: The city of Omotesandou for me has always been a cross between Ginza chic and Shibuya trendy and this week’s offering, a lot of interesting offerings but this one caught my eye.  Was it self made, fashion friend or just put together for the hell of it.  Very different for Omotesando and I like to see fashions outside of the norm for a city.  For Omotesandou, definitely different.

DAIKANYAMA: This week’s Daikanyama offerings were actually pretty cool and you can tell many people can’t wait for the winter time, so one can dress for the cold weather.  Despite the weather still quite warm in Japan, we are starting to see people wear the scarves right now and our pick goes to this guy for our week’s choice.  Simple but quite daring for the early Fall.

GINZA: Ginza is about style, and of the cities featured, the city that is more about expensive fashion style. Our pick went to this woman and this week did have it’s good fashion features for Ginza but her outfit looked cool, classy Ginza-ish and again, sandals…no boots.  Which was nice to see in Ginza this week!

Tokyo Street Style / Style-Arena Picks of the Week

It’s our Tokyo Street Style Picks of the week from this week’s Style-Arena fashion showcase courtesy of the Japan Fashion Association:

HARAJUKU: Harajuku, the city where “Anything Goes” for fashion.   Our pick of the week goes to this young woman.  The selections for this week’s Harajuku, we’ve featured similar styles before and thus, this person, the outfit is fairly simple and these type of shoes that she is wearing seems to be a big trend in Harajuku and even Shibuya.    There is a big revival of 60’s hippie, native American decoir in areas of Japan of late.

SHIBUYA: Shibuya is all about “trendy” and this week’s Shibuya fashion was about average.  But in the end, I chose this guy.  Purple and black outfit with the white v-neck.  Simple, color coordinate but cool to start of the Fall season.

OMOTESANDO: The city of Omotesandou for me has always been a cross between Ginza chic and Shibuya trendy and this week’s offerings were quite difficult because there were some really cool fashion.  I decided to go for this woman’s outfit because it was bright and vibrant.  There were a lot of black outfits this week and although I am quite partial towards black, this woman’s colorful fashion choice caught my attention.

DAIKANYAMA: This week’s Daikanyama offerings were actually pretty cool and there were some good fashion choices but in the end, my selection for the week was this woman’s outfit.  I like the use of black and the brown purse to match that chapatsu hair.

GINZA: Ginza is about style, and of the cities featured, the city that is more about expensive fashion style. With it being a bit rainy in Tokyo, the boots came out in full force at Ginza.   So, with many who tend to go with the black or brown boots, I decided to select someone who didn’t.  And this woman’s outfit of using green, brown and white in her outfit was pretty cool and the way she enhances her boots to really give that Ginza feel and her overall accessories separates Ginza-chic and Shibuya-trendy.

And this week, there were a lot of women with black tights.  Sure, the tights have been featured on Style-Arena many times but having to choose one, I would pick this woman.  It’s Harajuku, it can’t be Ginza chic and it can’t be Shibuya trendy.  It has to have that cool, spunky feel and this person’s outfit, simple but yet great use of reds and blacks in the overall outfit from her head to her toes.

SHIBUYA: Shibuya is all about “trendy” and looking at this young woman’s outfit is so cute, sexy and trendy all in one.  It’s still hot and humid in Tokyo but it’s great to see this woman show off her trendiness that day.

OMOTESANDO: The city of Omotesandou for me has always been a cross between Ginza chic and Shibuya trendy and for this woman’s outfit, has the sophistication that you would see from a woman in Ginza but not sporting expensive brand names but yet looking trendy.  Overall, a cool Summer outfit.

DAIKANYAMA: This week’s Daikanyama offerings were OK but I really enjoyed this person’s outfit.  A little bit of Native American, hippyish or even South Asia influences.  All in all, it stood out among the offerings for this week in Daikanyama and she’s my pick!

GINZA: Ginza is about style, and of the cities featured, the city that is more about expensive fashion style. And typically, you would find mothers and grandmothers who are just as fashion conscious as the young adults and teens in this city and this week, my selection goes to this woman.  It’s Ginza and not as forthcoming with brand name purses or accessories but for Ginza, it works.

The selections for Harajuku this week were alright but of the selections, this woman with the oversized jeans and matching shoes and vest with a sports sweater looks simple, athletic, feminine and cool.

SHIBUYA: Shibuya typicall has some trendy fashion but with the heat in full force in Japan, a lot of the fashion featured were people just trying to look nice in whatever they can in the high heat but there were some featured in this latest selection from Shibuya that still try to emphasize the “trendy” and “cool” and this woman was the one.

OMOTESANDO: The city of Omotesandou had a few cool offerings but I wanted something different from the crowd and this person had a little chic Ginza and trendy Shibuya and all in all, a nice outfit for the Summer and for Omotesando.

DAIKANYAMA: This week’s Daikanyama offerings were OK but this guy stood out.  May it be the hat, the glasses or the oversized pants, it caught my attention and it worked for him and his physique.  All in all, simple and cool.

GINZA: Ginza is about style, and of the cities featured, the city that is more about expensive fashion style. And typically, you would find mothers and grandmothers who are just as fashion conscious as the young adults and teens in this city and my pick goes to this woman.  Very Ginza, classy and fashion that is eye catching and definitely works!

Tokyo Street Style / Style-Arena Picks of the Week

August 31, 2008 by KNDY · Leave a Comment

It’s our Tokyo Street Style Picks of the week from this week’s Style-Arena fashion showcase courtesy of the Japan Fashion Association:

HARAJUKU: Summer in Harujuku and in this city, fashion is all about “Anything Goes”. There were some cool Harajaku fashion featured this week on Style-Arena but this woman’s outfit, the balance with the shoes and vest work well with her overall outfit.  I know it may seem a bit Shibuya-ish but it looks very cool!  The shoes really deviate from Shibuya trendy to just something different and cool.

SHIBUYA: Summer in Shibuya and you would think less of the long sleeves and knit cap but with a little rain this past week, in Japan, it gives people the excuse to bring some of that autumn style early.  This person’s outfit stood out as Shibuya trendy because of the boots.  Shibuya and boots are just two peas in the pod.  And as for the boots, seeing a trend here with Harajuku and Shibuya?

OMOTESANDOU: This week was a tough one! There were really cool outfits but there were a few that I’ve seen before and personally, I went conservative on this one with this woman’s all black outfit.  All black is sexy, elegant and her outfit just works well with the Summer.  Not so Ginza-ish but yet still sexy.

DAIKANYAMA: This week’s Daikanyama offerings were ok and to pick one from the week, hmm…  I have to give it to this guy.  Many of the others dressed in t-shirts, skirt and shoes/boots but I know this guy’s outfit is typical for what you would see in Harajuku but all in all, good balance with the blacks and emphasizing the skull/rock n’ roll look.

GINZA: Ginza is about style, and of the cities featured, the city that is more about expensive fashion style. But this week was not so pronounced as in many other weeks but nevertheless, another conservative selection with this woman’s outfit.  It’s not Ginza flashy but nevertheless, simple.

Special Mention: Although my selection for Omotesandou was conservative, you can’t help but look at this outfit and really be curious of the overall outfit and the sandals.  Very different and yet very cool!

Tokyo Street Style / Style-Arena Picks of the Week

August 24, 2008 by KNDY · Leave a Comment

It’s our Tokyo Street Style Picks of the week from this week’s Style-Arena fashion showcase courtesy of the Japan Fashion Association:

HARAJUKU: Summer in Harujuku and in this city, fashion is all about “Anything Goes”. For this week, our pick goes to this guy. It’s definitely do what you want, wear what you want Harajuku style. And it’s so different from everyone else. Despite the socks, all in all, an eye catching outfit that works with Harajuku.

SHIBUYA: Summer in Shibuya and you’ll notice many women sporting the one piece dress with a white t-shirt to compliment. For this week’s offerings, I chose this one on the basis of looking good, especially when it’s humid out. Therefore, there are others and Shibuya is known for women and their boots but I just don’t like the visual idea of long boots in a humid day. Or the afterthought when those boots come off during a hot, humid day. Eww… So, this woman has a good summer outfit on and the blue, green, white and brown comes together nicely and it works for Shibuya.

OMOTESANDOU: This week was a tough one but in the end, same feeling of hot, humid weather and comfort and style. Dig the green wifebeater with the white pants, cool belt and the shoes as well! Sexy, simple and chic!

DAIKANYAMA: This week’s Daikanyama offerings were average but I figured among those that were all average, this outfit for this woman looked nice and curious if it’s denim. Good color coordination with the browns.

GINZA: Ginza is about style, and of the cities featured, the city that is more about expensive fashion style. And this woman is all about Gucci in this outfit. Nice use of white and browns but the Gucci purse and belt just stand out

[FASHION] Tokyo New Tribe Picks of the Week

August 1, 2008 by KNDY · Leave a Comment

It’s our Tokyo Street Style Picks of the week from the latest Tokyo New Tribe fashion showcase:

Koakuma-Kei: Women who like to wear tempting outfits…older women or those who just like to tempt you to look while they walk nearby.  Her stockings are enough to tempt a second look.

Choiwaru Oyaji: Sexy and sophisticated guys over 40.  I can tell you right now that when I reach my 40, 50, 60….there is no way I’m going to forego fashion and I’m glad these men are the same as well.  I picked this person because while many picked out nice suits or black leather, this guy went for accessories that are just too darn cool.

Lolita-Kei: I’m sure many of you have seen so many varieties of Lolita fashion but I really dig this woman’s outfit.  Different style of patterns than what you typically see and the hat and how the top of the dress is featured is pretty cool!

[FASHION] Tokyo Street Style / Style-Arena Picks of the Week

August 1, 2008 by KNDY · Leave a Comment

It’s our Tokyo Street Style Picks of the week from this week’s Style-Arena fashion showcase:

HARAJUKU: Summer in Harujuku and in this city, fashion is all about “Anything Goes”.  For this week, our pick goes to this woman with an interesting decoir of the skulls, shoes and overall accessories.  Sure, it’s not going to appeal to the Shibuya or Ginza-esque fashion viewers but remember, this is Harajuku and outlandish fashion is what it’s all about.

SHIBUYA: Summer in Shibuya and you’ll notice many women sporting the one piece dress with a white t-shirt to compliment.  Personally, I would prefer to see this than tight leggings which dominated much of 2007, so for this week, I chose this woman who donned this one piece but accessorized with the hat and sandals.

OMOTESANDOU: Similar to Shibuya, a similar situation.  Since Japan is hot and humid during the Summer, for me, less is more if you know how to wear it well.  Similar to Shibuya, the one piece gets my pick for this week for Omotesandou offerings.  As for the pattern of her dress, florals in almost a homage to the 60’s and 70’s are what’s in in Japan of late.

DAIKANYAMA: As mentioned in previous fashion style picks in Japan, floral is in and whether or not this is a bad thing depends on you.  Personally when I see this, it reminds me of my mother’s fashion of the 70’s (my mother really followed those trends back then) but I know some people might think…”love it” or “can’t stand it”…but in Japan, it’s whats in.  But although I’m not particularly thrilled with these patterns, she manages to accessorize with the belt, purse, sandals and necklace.

GINZA: Ginza is a place your not going to find much of the outlandish 70’s floral.  You will see certain subtile florals but nothing outlandish.  But seeing other cities have its floral patterns, I’m not going for it for Ginza.  And for this pick, I go for the woman in white.  There is something about this outfit that not only is it simply white, its simply sexy and dig her glasses.

[FASHION] Tokyo Street Style / Style-Arena Picks of the Week

It’s our Tokyo Street Style Picks of the week from this week’s Style-Arena fashion showcase:

HARAJUKU: With Summer now in full gear, you see a lot of people sporting t-shirts and shorts but you will catch people still trying to keep it stylin’ as the temperatures rise.  So, this person stood out this week as someone not sporting the t-shirt and shorts.  Probably a bit hot wearing these outfit in the heat but you got to hand it to him for keeping cool with his gray/silver and black outfit.

SHIBUYA: As mentioned in our Harajuku section, hot weather really makes people not to think about what they wear so much and sometimes comfort in the heat is priority over style.  But there are always people who will try to find ways to influence their fashion by simplistic means to stand out.   And for Shibuya, you have to give it to this woman with her short shorts, pantyhose, yellow shoes and of course the red bows and purse to really bring color out to a dark outfit.

OMOTESANDOU: Omotesandou really had pretty cool selections but this guy’s outfit really captured my attention.  Again, stylin’ in the hot weather but I really dig the overall outfit and how the jacket and his bag show color coordination with the browns and blacks in his outfit.

DAIKANYAMA: There has been somewhat of a hippie revival in terms of clothing in Japan and definitely quite a bit of floral.  But this person’s outfit is just simple and sexy.  The dress is sexy but paired with the socks and outlandish sandals definitely stood out for me.

GINZA: Ginza is always known for its expensive fashion during the winter but with Summer now upon us, Ginza offerings this week were casual.  But of the offerings this week, this woman’s outfit stood out for me.  Simple but yet a good balance of the white, brown and red.

[FASHION] Tokyo Street Style / Style-Arena Picks of the Week

June 12, 2008 by KNDY · Leave a Comment

It’s our Tokyo Street Style Picks of the week from this week’s Style-Arena fashion showcase:

HARAJUKU: Our pick of the week goes to this woman sporting a simple bust stylish skirt and a good utilization of pink, black and white in her overall outfit and accessories (backpack and umbrella).  The hairstyle tends to be more Shibuya-ish but all in all,  my pick for the week.

SHIBUYA: Shibuya was interesting because of the really interesting fashion choices which featured a guy in a hot pink shirt, a guy wearing tights and much more.  But I decided that my pick would go to this guy.  The cut off jeans, white t-shirt are rather simplistic, but good utilization of the jacket, accessories such as the necklace, belt, hat and bag.  Simplistic but stylish.

OMOTESANDO: Omotesando this week showcased “floral” outfits for the women.  And there were many outfits which I saw as casual.  But in the end, I chose this person’s outfit among the casual outfits featured.  Her slender body and the jeans emphasize her body and fit her well.

DAIKANYAMA: Daikanyama fashion offerings this week was not as eye appealing.  A lot of more fashion “Dont’s” to nothing that caught my attention.  But in the end, I chose this guy because although simplistic, the good utilization of browns in his overall outfit from the hat, belt, shoes and backpack. with the lighter beige jacket and to enhance the blues in his outfit.

GINZA: It was a drenching day at Ginza and many were out with their “it might rain” outfits.  But for the classy city, this woman’s outft stood out….a jacket that really showcased her legs, although I do have a bit of a reservation for the pink sandals, all in all, my pick for the week.
