Pusan Festival honors Asian film directors and actors

The “Land of Scarecrows” by Korean director Roh Gyeong-tae and “Naked of Defenses” by Masahide Ichii of Japan won the New Currents Awards at the Pusan International Film Festival in South Korea on Friday, website Sina.com reported.

Yang Jin, a young Chinese post-’80s director, won the New Currents Award special mention for his film “Er Dong.” Chinese director Zhang Yuan won the BFC-Busan Film Commission Award and 10 million won, or 7, 675 US dollars for “Executioner Garden,” set in 1930s Shanghai.

Pusan Film Festival to feature films from 60 countries

Arirang News reported, “The 13th Annual Pusan International Film Festival is coming up, starting on Oct. 2 and lasting for one week in the southern port city also spelled Busan”

“Known for introducing up-and-coming movies from Asia including Korea, this year the festival is attempting something new.”

“The aim is to expand the festival’s focus outside the region by tapping into countries with potential to produce great movies. A total of 60 countries are participating.”
