A COMMENT FROM KNDY:
With the announcement by Leah Dizon of her shotgun marriage and pregnancy, do you feel this will be a career ending move?
It will be interesting is to see how Japanese media respond to this in the upcoming days. Will Leah Dizon’s pregnancy affect her career in Japan? We’ve seen models who have been pregnant do quite well. Such as Anna Umemiya. And then we have seen actresses such as Ryosue Hiroko and Nanako Matsushima get grilled by the media that their careers will never reach popularity again. Especially for Hirosue who gotten pregnant and also had a shotgun wedding and then eventually divorced. But both women also have done quite well in their return.
Even in the past, people wondered the same about Namie Amuro which in a way, her career went stagnant for several years but in 2008, nearly a decade after getting married and having a child, her career is more popular now than ever.
The difference among each of these women though compared to Leah Dizon’s situation is the fact that these women are native to Japan. Are looked as Japanese while Leah Dizon is looked at as a hot model from the United States who has been given an opportunity to become a performer and talent in Japan.
Other young performers in Japan that have recently announced their marriages and pregnancy to the media have received lukewarm responses. An example is Nozomi Tsuji (formerly of Morning Musume), who’s announcement became a disappointment because of the time promoted her for a music group and her other works and was criticized by many top people in the music industry.
Obviously, with the marriage happening and four months into the pregnancy, this has given her management sometime to consider the situation and how Dizon would respond to it. It will be quite interesting to see where Leah Dizon’s career in Japan goes from here.
