[MALAYSIA] Karen Mok and Jared Leto to host MTV Asia Awards
CRIEnglish.com reported, “Hong Kong actress-singer Karen Mok will be co-hosting the 2008 MTV Asia Awards show which will be held on August 2 at the Arena of Stars in Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia, the MTV Asia network announced on Thursday.”
“Karen Mok will join Jared Leto, the vocalist of American rock band 30 Seconds to Mars, in hosting the 6th annual pan-regional awards show which gives recognition to regional and international artists for their achievements in the industry.”

CRIEnglish.com reported, “American hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas and Chinese pop singer Karen Mok raised more than US$1 million to help victims of the Sichuan earthquake at a benefit concert sponsored by Chivas Brothers in Shanghai on Tuesday night.”
“This was the second Shanghai performance for Black Eyed Peas, who hit the stage at 10 p.m. and performed for an hour for an invitation-only audience of 700 people. Singer-actress Karen Mok opened the show at 8:30 p.m.”
“Chivas Brothers and the performers together pledged 6 million yuan (US$866,000). Black Eyed Peas also auctioned off a signed guitar, posters and CDs, and Mok contributed her cheongsam — a traditional Chinese dress.”
“The auction, together with audience donations, raised an additional 2.07 million yuan (US$300,000).”

Cheryl is Hong Kong-based film director. She uses the story of her first true love as the basis for her next project. As she tells the tale to a screenwriter, Cheryl relives old from a time of innocence. Ho-jun is a shy youngster, more interested in his guitar than school. A chance encounter between Ho-jun and Sheo-rou leads to a first sweet taste of romance. However, an innocent adventure turns sour when Sheo-rou’s mother discovers that the young couple have spent the night together at a hotel…

DVD REVIEW:
This movie is about a love triangle with a twist. Without revealing too much about this love triangle I will talk more about the background of the story.
The movie takes place in two time periods. One is in the mid-1970’s, showing how everyone met and interacted with each other. The other half takes place in the late 1990’s with a writer using her own experience as a movie but not telling her co-writers it has to do with her.
While writing this movie, she never was able to understand the male character’s perspective and then she started to realize it later on.
The DVD video is beautiful and the sound is good but it’s a dialogue movie, so no special use of surround sound. The special features are three different trailers of this movie and character information.
“Tempting Heart” Is a romantic, sad and interesting story that many romantic viewers and those who had someone they love but chose a different path that kept you apart. For those expecting the typical romantic movie, this is not it. This one is more about romance but with a twist and for some people it can be a reality.
It is finally great to see an HK movie that is different from the norm and also past the 120 minute mark!

DVD REVIEW:
First, this is not an adult movie.
This movie is about a director who had two movies that bombed. He gets another chance with a Triad (gangster) owned studio but he doesn’t know that the movie he will be directed is an adult film?
The movie is hilarious and focuses on the director’s several stages of filming this movie. How he wants to make a good movie, despises porno movies and now he has to film one. In this film is his cop girlfriend (Karen Mok) who tells him to work because he hasn’t worked for a year and Shu Qi who is a bad actress but since her boyfriend is the owner of the studio she’s playing the lead. Unfortunately, she’s so bad of an actress that the director feels like giving up.
The movie is a comedy and romance and I guess you can say it’s the HK Boogie Nights but not based on a real story.
As typical for older Universe DVD’s, just trailers and star files. All in all a good movie and even better for Shu Qi fans.
