Acid Black Cherry - Aishite Nai (a J!-ENT World Groove CD Single Review)
August 18, 2008 by Dennis Amith · Leave a Comment

“The third CD single from Acid Black Cherry (the solo project of Janne Da Arc lead vocalist Yasu), ‘Aishite Nai’ this time is a slower pace song compared to the last two CD singles. Plus another cover of a chart topping classic!”

After reviewing Acid Black Cherry’s “Fuyu no Maboroshi” (the fourth CD single) and watching the music video, I realized their is somewhat of a storyline in the music videos featuring lead vocalist Yasu and his band members in otaku like outfits which culminated up to the dramatic ending of “Fuyu no Maboroshi”.
I noticed I missed reviewing “Aishite Nai”, so I listened to the third CD single which was more or less a ballad or un-ballad due to the title which translates to “not in love”.
But the CD single is more or less a slower-paced song compared to Acid Black Cherry’s previous releases which were very rock oriented with the thrashing guitars.
AKIHIDE (of BREAKERZ) is still heard prominently with his churning guitars in the background, as with SHUSE’s bass-playing. But nevertheless a song sung passionately by Yasu.
As for the coupling song “Ihoujin” (foreigner), following Yasu’s cover selections as in previous CD single, this time he goes to a no. 1 chart topping song from 1979 originally by Kume Sayuri and a song that has been covered a total of 13 times and in 2003 was most notable for the version by B’z guitarist Matsumoto Tak and ZARD.
The Acid Black Cherry version is pop oriented but a beautiful string arrangement in the background. All instruments were by Janne Da Arc keyboardist kiyo.
There are only these two tracks, no instrumentals included.
The DVD features the music video and off-shot.
The music video does not feature the otaku group as shown on the previous videos but features Yasu singing in the rain. You learn through the off-shot, which is literally the behind-the-scenes of the music video and recording of the song that cold water was pouring all over Yasu and after the shooting of the music video, Yasu screaming of how cold he was feeling.
But all in all, the off-shot was surprisingly lengthy at over 10-minutes. So, it was great to have that included.
As for the CD insert, standard tri-fold with lyrics and production credits on one side, pictures of Yasu on the other and a flyer promoting Acid Black Cherry’s fourth CD single and previous CD singles.

Overall, “Aishite Nai” is the slower-paced single of the first four CD singles but the music is very cool and as usual, Yasu’s vocals are well done.
Of course, I recommend the CD+DVD version pretty much for inclusion of the off-shot video which features a lot of footage if you are a big fan of Yasu or Acid Black Cherry in general.
But a solid CD single nevertheless! Check it out!

Thee Out Mods in San Francisco - Photo by Angelo Delos Reyes (J!-ENT)
Thee Out Mods in Los Angeles - Photo by Nergene Arquelada (J!-ENT)
If there is one group that we have a lot of live photos taken by both our photographers Angelo Delos Reyes from performances in the Bay Area and Nergene Arquelada for performances in Los Angeles, it’s of the group Thee Out Mods.
The group announced on their MySpace page that they are returning back home to Japan after residing in Los Angeles for several years.
The group definitely picked up some steam performing throughout California and generated a good-sized fan base.
We wish the band the best and definitely look forward to their performances in the US.
J!-ENT Interview with BUDO GRAPE is now up!
July 25, 2008 by Dennis Amith · 1 Comment

Hey everyone!
Our interview with BUDO GRAPE is now up!
What I love about this group is that it reminds me of the music I listened to a lot back in the 80’s… the B-52’s, Oingo Boingo, Public Image Ltd. and even Japanese bands such as Jittering Jin, Modern Choki Chokies, Go-Bangs back then.
The group recently performed in the US and their limited print US album “JUICE!” is now available!!!
Anyway, I want to thank JapanFiles.com and David Cirone for his awesome photo contribution for this interview.
