Takasuka Shigefumi recently reviewed “Evangelion” for Daily Yomiuri. Takasuka wrote, “Japan’s most controversial anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion, also exists in a manga version that can help readers get a grasp on the long and complex story.”"The manga’s author, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, is a member of GAINAX, the top-notch anime studio that produced the original TV series, which was aired from October 1995 to March 1996 by TV Tokyo and its affiliated stations. The TV version was directed by Hideaki Anno, also of GAINAX.”
“Sadamoto designed characters for the legendary anime but was more involved in drawing the manga adaptation of Evangelion, which began its print run in Gekkan Shonen Esu, a monthly magazine for boys, in February 1995–before the anime series was launched on TV.”
