[HK] Hong Kong man convicted for uploading Edison Chen photos

CRIEnglish.com reported, “A Hong Kong man has become the first person to be convicted of uploading nude photos on to the Internet .”

“Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts sentenced Kwok Chun-wai to two months in prison with two years of probation, according to Sina.com.”

“Kwok, 24, was found uploading about 140 explicit photos of actor and singer Edison Chen and several female celebrities in January and February. Eighty-four photos were judged to be obscene.”

“The magistrate said it was necessary to jail Guo because the photographs harmed the people in them even though the defendant didn’t make any money from the images.”

The agent companies of the two stars have confirmed the news, and said the investor doesn’t care about Edison’s photo incident, and thought his privacy has little connection with his acting career. So they contacted Edison in the first place, for they thought he is the most suitable actor to visualize the character described in the script.”

[CHINA] Edison Chen Scandal Update: Two men detained for distribution of nude photos

CRIEnglish.com reported, “Police have arrested two men in the central China province of Hunan for posting explicit nude photographs of Hong Kong celebrities on the Internet. ”

“The men, surnamed Xiao and Wang, were sentenced to five days detention for circulating the photos of entertainer Edison Chen and female celebrities. ”

“On Tuesday, police at Changshan Public Security Bureau found more than 10 graphic images in an on-line post. The writer of the post, which drew more than 100,000 clicks, proclaimed he had many more such photos.”

“Jolin Tsai and Elva Hsiao, two singers who were rumored to have relationships with Chen, 27, both issued statements through their agent companies on Wednesday, saying any one who can come up with their pictures with Chen in bed can get the reward if courts prove the pictures are real, Sina.com.cn reported.”

“The nude picture scandal has shocked the world’s Chinese-speaking community after more than 800 photographs have been circulated on the Internet since late January.”

“The pictures so far have embroiled seven female celebrities, including Gillian Chung of the female duo Twins and actress Cecilia Cheung.”

The statement further warned that media outlets that had used the photos in their publications had also broken the law.”

In the past weeks, several dozen people have been arrested by police in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Chinese mainland for breaking local anti-pornography laws by spreading the photos on the internet or producing and selling related discs.”

“Other stars involved include Gillian Chung, member of the pop duo Twins, and actress-singer Cecilia Cheung. Entertainment publications around China have been devoting headlines to the incident for several weeks.”

“I would like now to apologize to all the people for all the suffering that has been caused and the problems that have arisen from this,” Chen said at the press conference, reading out a statement in English.”

Bloomberg.com reported, “Hong Kong actor Edison Chen said he’ll quit show business after admitting taking sexually explicit photos with celebrities that leaked onto the Web and generated a wave of media coverage.”"“I am deeply sorry,” Chen told more than 300 journalists at a press conference in Hong Kong today. “I admit most of the photos being circulated on the Internet were taken by me. I would like to apologize to all the ladies and their families.”

“Hundreds of photos published online and in newspapers led to debate about Hong Kong pornography laws and a public apology from a female pop star. The pictures were posted on the Web after about 1,300 photo files were stolen from a computer sent to a repair shop, police said.”

“The sex-photo scandal involved at least six Hong Kong actresses, singers and models. Chen, a 27-year-old Canadian-born Chinese actor and singer famous in Hong Kong, returned to the city today to explain the incident after pictures started appearing from Jan. 28.”

“Photos supposedly showing Hong Kong actor and singer Edison Chen and several female stars naked in bed and in sexual poses became a hot topic among Internet users from late January onwards. ”

“The Beijing Internet news information review council, initiated by government-sponsored Beijing Association of Online Media, issued a statement on Monday, criticizing the Nasdaq-listed website as being badly behaved during this event. ”

“In the statement the association said “we severely criticize Baidu’s behavior”.”
