[OFF-THE-HOOK] Looking to profile collections or drawings of Tohoshinki from fans worldwide

Greetings everyone,
The outpouring of e-mail from Tohoshinki fans is simply incredible and I decided that I would like to do something similar to our L’Arc~en~Ciel article back in 2004 by showcasing the fandom worldwide in North America, Europe, Asia and South America and possibly other countries as well.
And this is where I will need your help, I am currently looking for fans who have their bedroom decorated with Tohoshinki pictures, fans with Tohoshinki drawings or even a shrine of merchandise of Tohoshinki and even has a dance group learning choreography of Tohoshinki and even cosplay or hairstyles.
I would love to feature you in this article and to showcase how the fandom is all around the world and I need your help.
What I need is:
Photos of your collection, drawings or choreography. You will be given credit for your photography.
For those that are chosen to be featured in the article (this is outside of the fan question part of the interview), I need the following:
YOUR NAME, CITY (Province) and COUNTRY
And for you to answer the following questions:
- How did you become a fan of Tohoshinki?
- What is your favorite CD single and album from Tohoshinki and why?
- What is it about Tohoshinki that you like about their group.
- Then talk about your interest and if you did anything in regards to Tohoshinki (ie. collecting images, magazines, learning choreography, doing similar hairstyles, etc.)
That is for one section of the article.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY (posted on 2.15.08): The only thing I need though is to make sure the photos are large for me. Reason is because our articles are magazine style format (8.5 x 11 inches), what you see on your monitor screen that looks big is actually very small for the article. So, some photos we have received are 1 inch and too small to use. Also, some are compressed too much for us to use. The majority of you sent good size photos but if you think you submitted one that is very small, please send us a larger version. I also will contact you if you have a larger version if possible, when we start on section 1.

SECTION 3: I am looking for information on fan-based events. I hear there are Tohoshinki fan events in Thailand, Philippines, Peru, etc. If anyone can send me photos that I can use in the article, please e-mail them to me. I will give you credit for your photos but if you attend these events, If possible, I would love to use the photo. Also, just a summary of what the event is about and just information about it. Thank you!
SECTION 4: Where in the World are the Tohoshinki Fans?
- You or you and your friends hold something Tohoshinki related (A sign, poster or whatever) but you must take a picture somewhere in your country. Be creative or be somewhere near your city or town’s landmark. The goal is to create a collage of photos of showing the fans from all over the world but I want more photos of the fans holding a sign or something Tohoshinki related in their part of the country somewhere outside of their bedroom. (Example: Holding something Tohoshinki related outside and show anything that is from your country - for example, a fan from France and their fans holding a sign for Tohoshinki but behind them is the Eiffel Tower or something cool to let Tohoshinki know they are in France. Or a group of students gathered together in a group holding a poster or something of Tohoshinki and posing in front of their school..
- Just a brief sentence of where the photo was taken, who the photo credit should go to and that’s pretty much it. Very easy.

SECTION 5: MINI FAN REVIEWS FOR TOHOSHINKI ALBUMS, CD SINGLES AND DVD’S
Typically in my articles, I review the CD singles, albums and DVD’s but because I know Tohoshinki are passionate and could tell who sings what part and so forth, I would like to do a mini fan review with a page dedicated to each and every CD single, album and DVD (one page only). All, I need is you to submit a mini-review (one paragraph or two), your name and what country your from. No photo needed. That’s it. E-mail your review(s) nt2099[at]gmail[dot]com or info[at]nt2099[dot]com. And most importantly, please focus on the positive not the negative!
UPDATE (2.18.08): Review page for “PURPLE LINE” and “Together” are closed. Reviews for “T” are not needed since it was covered in Section 2. Still need mini fan reviews for CD singles, albums (including Korean albums) and DVD’s.

Hi everyone before I answer your questions, I notice some of you are members of their fan club. I would like to make a section for information if any fan needs to join a fan club in a certain country, can you supply me information on how they can join. I will include a page in the article with fan club information. Thanks!!!
FIZZA: Yes, for choreography or karaoke or singing, we will do a page showcasing that. What I will need if possible is if it’s on YouTube or other video site, the URL, screen capture or photo and a summary of what the video is about. I will include in the article showcasing fans performing online.
TIFFANY: For the first section, it depends on the submissions but there will be a good number featured but for the second section, the chances are the best of getting in there. I tend to include a lot of people. But it’s important that a photo and all information is answered.
SHEREENA and LEI: If it’s on YouTube, Revver or Google, all we need is the URL, possibly a picture or screen capture and just a brief info. of what the video is about. So, singing or dancing or anything video related that as a fan you are doing for the group will be featured.
LIQING: There will be a limit for fan question and the first section, I need to make sure the balance is good when featuring fans from different countries. So, I hope we get a good representation of fans all over the world. As for our L’Arc~en~Ciel article, you can find it here: http://www.nt2099.com/J-ENT/INTERVIEWS/
Of course, I’m predicting this article and interview to have more pages than the L’Arc~en~Ciel one.
TINTIN: Sure, you can do it a as a group of friends. Some people have done it before for example, in Malaysia and Indonesia, they would take a big picture as a group saying “I love ______ from Malaysia”. So, group pictures showcasing a banner or sign for their love for Tohoshinki and showing which country their from…that is cool!
NATALIA: If it’s 8.5 x 11, go ahead and scan or take a picture of it and send it to me. But depending on how many submissiones, if it’s a few, we will feature them in smaller pictures I usually don’t get much artwork BUT If there is several submissions of artwork, then I may consider featuring full length pages (8.5 x 11) but it depends of how many people submit artwork.
PHUONG THAO: Hi Phuong, yes you can ask the club to submit if they’d like. Read my answers above to others who asked a similiar question

CHRIS TAN: I actually asked the label if we can do a contest featuring signed merchandise. We’ll see…
FRANCO: Hi Franco, if your group was the one that was doing the “RISING SUN” choreograph (from Brazil) video on youtube, you guys are awesome! If not, no problem….if there is choreography, I’ll add the URL’s. Give me a summary about the choreography (ie…was it a challenge to learn the dance moves, how long, etc.). Will need one good screen capture if possible or a picture of the group.

Hi KNDY, I noticed in your second comment (from Feb.1) you mentioned fan clubs. Most of us here are not actually part of the the group’s official fan clubs.
In Japan, their official fan club is ‘Bigeast’ (http://fc.avex.jp/toho/index.html) and is managed by the company of their Japanese label, Avex Trax. Only fans located in Japan can join Bigeast. The group’s more well known fan club ‘Cassiopeia’ (http://fanclub.smtown.com/) is from their home country of South Korea and is managed by their label and management company S.M. Entertainment. It caters to their fans in Korea, but international fans are also able to join (however there aren’t many benefits to join unless one can travel to Korea for concerts and such).
Outside of Korea and Japan, international fans don’t really have an “official” fan club. So if you see people writing “I’m a member of ________” in their comments, those are usually fansites and TVXQ centric forums that fans around the world have created.

KAREN: Hi Karen, so far the majority of audio/video submissions have mainly been links to youtube. But I think its probably best to stick with video, so it’s easy for us to link to.
Luffa and AMI: I wish I could but unfortunately but the truth is that all Japanese labels are strict. I have a lot of videos from interviews but one of the conditions we have with the label is that we use the recordings as a backup for transcribing the answers.

I really think that the company will allow you to release the video footage if asked.
The group has taken every chance there has been of providing fans with footage in even minor interviews (to give fans something related to TVXQ almost everyday). They allow radio cameras, online postings of their videos on websites etc etc.

FELIX: I’ll try but typically the record label is very tight on things. I’ve seen other reporters who have been given permission by the artist but then having to remove things because it wasn’t approved by the A&R and management (who makes the call). But I’ll ask.
Lei: Deadline is at Feb. 24th but I can tell you right now for the section 2) What did you think about “T”? This one maybe closed early because we received a lot of submissions for our 8-10 page limit. Artwork section looks good, we have 4-pages but if we get more, that would be nice. But at this time, we still have room. I’m predicting that this article will be pretty big and may surpass the page count of our VELFARRE article (50 pages). So, we still encourage those of you who have collections or other things to please submit to section 1. Fan questions, we have received submissions from probably 300-400 people in the last week via the comment section and e-mail and but my team will need to go through them and decide which ones to ask.

KARLA: We will announce on J!-ENT and various forums and people who are involved with other Tohoshinki websites. I will see if we can get the link also on the official Tohoshinki website. Thank you for your petition, I will also bring this up with the label to see if its possible. I will let you know that I did bring it up for consideration for a convention in Los Angeles but if you want my honest opinion, if you guys want Tohoshinki in the USA, you need to let the biggest conventions in the US do it. Primarily, Otakon in Baltimore, Maryland or Anime Expo in Los Angeles. I highly, highly recommend you start contacting them now.

JANET: Yes, everyone will be in the pages. I have completed section 2 and there are 12 pages from fans all over the world. I was very impressed and reading about the passion from the fans from all over. If the article takes longer, I may release this early as something fans can read before the actual article comes out.

TINTIN: I’m trying my best….from the blogs and even e-mail, I think we have received over a thousand. So, for those who sent me e-mail, for those of you who will be featured, so far I contacted Section 2 people so far. Once I get section 1 started, I will contact those people next. So, if you haven’t received an e-mail from me for section 1 questions, don’t worry, I will contact you once that section is going to be worked on.
CARLA: I think that our Avex contact will give to the A&R, their A&R at RhythmZone will give it to their management and management will share with the group. Yes, L’Arc~en~Ciel did receive our article. I think we had the largest (in page count) for their US concert coverage. So, that was a lot of fun. I think that because of the international support for the group, there is no doubt that they will see this. It’s all positive and I’m sure they will enjoy knowing their fans are all over the globe. Especially when they see the merchandise collections.
JINI: Do not worry. Otakon is busy but keep trying for 2009. Once those cons are over in 2008, get your friends and fans ready and let them know on their message boards of who you want for 2009. Because right after it’s done, they will take a month or so break but immediately the labels will try to lock in a deal, so you need to make sure that you continue. I highly recommend doing this for the following cons:
Otakon (Baltimore), Anime Expo (Los Angeles), A-Kon (Texas), Sakura-Con (Seattle), Fanime (San Jose), and Pacific Media Expo (Los Angeles). I know that the first four cons are busy for 2008 but Pacific Media Expo (PMX), I would start posting on their message boards now at http://www.pacificmediaexpo.com and start posting on their message boards. Their event is typically held in October or November. There is also Anime USA in Viginia in November. But you want to go for the cons that have done big concerts and/or have a good attendance. PMX is a smaller event and not a anime con…but they had the second largest concert in the USA with T.M. Revolution and Tamaki Nami several years ago. Anime USA has brought m.o.v.e and MAX.

JAEJOONGGF_YURI: It’s important to have an event who can afford to bring them to Vietnam. In the US, anime conventions (large ones) typically have the money to bring artists. In US, Europe and South America and other countries, sometimes there is a sponsor(s) who will put the money to bring Tohoshinki to perform in their country. So, it’s all about money and also their schedule availability and if A&R/management are interested in the area.
TONISHA: So far the people I contacted are the ones who will get into section 2 and artwork. Section 1, I will be starting that soon. As for the article, it will be free. As for the submission, for section 2, I used nearly 99% of everyone’s comment. It was very important to get as many people in if possible and some submissions were longer than expected. So, some had a sentence removed (that weren’t too important) in the overall submission, so I can fit others submissions.

Is deadline for Section 1 still on 24th February? I’m doing some choreography and and need some time to finish it. And I was afraid that you might do something like with Section 2, that you’ll receive maximum amount of submissions and just close it before 24th.
And is it okay if I dance alone? I mean, in comments people said that they have dance groups or something like that. But I don’t T_T. [Finding someone in Poland who actually likes asian music is hard >_>.]

I have a quick question to ask you: Is there a leader of the group or do they share all the same responsibilities?
JINI: Hi JINI, I get a feeling this is going to be a big one. The label has given me some photos for the article and deciding how many pages I want to put in the article with photos of the guys (individual and group). Sometimes in my interviews, I include maybe 8-pages which we call pin-up. I’m still deciding how many photos of the group I want to use for their gallery. Btw, can a fan tell me what the following photos are from. One photo kind of reminds me of the H.O.T. days but on the front it says “TRI-ANGLE” and another that says HUG Tohoshinki mini.
CARLA: Hi Carla, I’m not sure yet. Our articles are in PDF format and online only (not in print format). Therefore, we are able to have articles larger than a typical magazine.

KNDY: You are still going to do a review of their Singles and Albums right? It will be very interesting indeed to hear an objective opinion on Tohoshinki’s songs, the fans are so immersed in them that it’s sometimes difficult for us to take a step back and really examine their music.
I for one would look forward to this section 5 the most, we very rarely get thorough reviews of Tohoshinki’s music, the papers always report on their activities and record sales than the content of their albums. Please do listen and review their music!

VENUS: It appears that our interview may have to be done via e-mail. Unfortunately, we don’t have a staff member on J!-ENT who can take our English questions and create it into Korean. So, we were informed a few hours ago, to have our translator put our questions into Japanese and they will have to do some work on their end. So, not sure if the English questions will get lost in translation. But still that’s still a good sign that maybe the interview is a go (knock on wood). Please note for those reading this, I have only contacted people on section 2 so far. Not for the other sections yet.
JINI: For HUG, I received a total of 8 photos. The actual studio photo, one which is a cover with a red and white background, others are solo shots and I think its when they were younger. There was another photo on there but they look futuristic and it said TRI-ANGLE on the front which Carla mentioned was a release from Korea. So, I’m guessing this is a Korean release.
Originally, I was going to have the Korean releases on the discography section but the label only gave me two Korean album photos, plus these. I may just create a page and put the images on a page or two. Not sure…depends on how many submissions I get for section 5 for the Korean albums and singles.
FEI: I wish I could, part of the problem is that because of the demand of Tohoshinki in Asia from media outlets, they are out of review copies for their older material and if I do get any left overs they are very few CD singles and the Korean albums. Tohoshinki is so much in demand that by the time I get any review copies, the article may be done by then. Hehe…but they did send me copies of two Korean albums by them, Tenjochiki and a group called Super Junior (their second album).
Nevertheless, I hope people contribute to section 5. I typically have a review for the albums and CD singles for the artists I interview or cover but because of the demand of the group, I have not been able to obtain their discography or newer albums or singles to review. Although, I was able to obtain a DVD box set called All about Tohoshinki Season 2 but haven’t had the time to open it yet. Looks like five DVD’s inside I think….

EMMA: Hi Emma, for section 1, no pictures of yourself. Pictures only if you have a collection of Tohoshinki on your walls or have a fan shrine or something showing your fandom. If you want to take a picture of yourself around your collection, that’s fine.
As for the name, I don’t use full names just a person’s first name in the article. If you plan to use a nickname that’s fine unless it’s unusual.

In terms of discography, their official Japanese website has the entire Japanese Single, Album and DVD discography, and also the Korean ones. I can paste links here right? http://toho-jp.net/discography/jp/. Hope that was helpful.
Regarding the All About Tohoshinki Season 2, it’s a Korean release of mostly their activities from early 2006 to mid 2007. There are indeed 5 DVDS.
1st DVD has their Korean MVs and live performances.
2nd DVD has a Variety show they’ve put together specially for the fans.
3rd DVD has all of the TV Banjun (Single episode drama with a twist at the
end) dramas they’ve appeared in.
4th DVD has couple talks, an indepth look into the relationship between all
of the members in different combinations of pairs, so 10 talks in
all.
5th DVD has all of the CM shootings, Fan signing events footages.
Each of the DVD amounts to about 1.5 - 2 hours of watching time, just a warning : )

Ahh, that makes sense…Part of the challenge that I had yesterday was that the latest press sheet that media gets…it shows information from “Stay with Me” all the way up to “SHINE” and then promotion for their five singles for Feb. and March. 2008. So, they forget the other CD singles and noticed that the CD versions has one extra song that the CD+DVD versions don’t.
Now as for this film “VACATION”, is it available on DVD? a) Is it good? b) can they act well? I have to ask maybe 1 or 2 questions regarding this. The clips that I’ve seen from that DVD seems pretty cool. It’s just this one film or did they act in other dramas and film as well?

I’m surprised at the inept press sheet, they missed 3 singles in all! Glad that you got it sorted out now anyway.
Regarding Tohoshinki’s dramas, the All About Tohoshinki Season 2 set has the TV banjun dramas that they have appeared in as a group on the 3rd DVD, including “Tokyo Holiday”, “Finding Lost Time”, “the Uninvited Guest”, “the Most Unforgettable Girl in My Life” and “Dangerous Love”. There is one episode called the “the King’s Man” where they did a parody of the famous Korean film, that one was not included in the DVD.
There are also a few more dramas that individual members have appeared in, such as “First Love” and “the Masked Swordsman/Fencer” from the Banjun Drama series with Yunho and Yuchun, 2 episodes of Nonstop 4 series with Yunho appearing in one, and Yuchun in another. Yunho and Yunchun also appeared in 3 episodes and 2 episodes in the Rainbow Romance series respectively.
Vacation is their first film, but it was not released nationwide, and was only shown in special fan meetings, it was included in the C version of their 3rd Korean Album “O”. The premise of the film was basically 4 mini films following the members on their separate vacation adventures, because Junsu and Changmin went together, that’s why there are only 4 sections.
Unfortunately I’m not really fit to say anything about the film, as I am very picky when it comes to acting and films, and I admire Tohoshinki more as singers than actors. I’m sure that other fans will be very happy to review the film though.

Yes, you can review as many of them as you’d like….but please keep them to a paragraph or two, not too long. [Oh, don't worry...all those samples are just samples and nothing finalized yet, although I'm glad you reminded me on "a cappella"]. Oh, forgot to note: For those looking at that example….the Korean albums and singles are not on there, so you can review those as well. And yes, we are aware of “Begin” images being incorrect. The label is looking for those.
Section 1, 3, 4 and 5 are still open.
We just found out today there are Tohoshinki fans in Israel who want to participate, so that’s pretty fun to hear. It’s amazing to discover fans from all over the world, so I hope they take part in section 5.

Also, I would just like to let you know….DBSK hasn’t done a whole lot of acting as Johnny groups do, or have alot of acting training. They like to concentrate on their music and dance more. The little acting they have done is to please fans, but whatever they have done was widley watched and distributed on the internet in korea and worldwide (Koreans being as tech savy as they are). Their Vacation drama is included in the “O” Jung.ban.hap album dvd, version C.
Besides Yunho and Micky, most members have not acted in a dramas ’series’.

Hi everyone! I appreciate everyone sending their photos for section 1, 3 and 4. The only thing I need though is to make sure the photos are large for me. Reason is because our articles are magazine style format (8.5 x 11 inches), what you see on your monitor screen that looks big is actually very small for the article. So, some photos we have received are 1 inch and too small to use. Also, some are compressed too much for us to use. The majority of you sent good size photos but if you think you submitted one that is very small, please send us a larger version. I also will contact you if you have a larger version if possible, when we start on section 1.
Also, another update… the article is now estimated to be 100-pages. A lot of photos I will utilize of the guys from live concerts to photo shoots and of course, you fans! I want this article to be as fun as possible and also use it as a possible platform to show tohoshinki and their management and A&R their fanbase. So, my goal is to make the article entertaining and fun for you all.
Btw, anyone close to any of the actual Korean or Japanese fan club members. I want to have at least some inclusion of these fans because I’m sure they have some awesome things to share as well. I know about the language barrier but hopefully to have some inclusion of the fans from those countries as well. May it be photos of their fan club or photos they would love to share with the world.

Hi Shu Yi,
If the photos are over 2000 pixels, it’s great because they’re big. 640×480 is typically 2.1 x 1.6 inches in width. So, for a lot of monitors…it looks big but when we lay it out, it’s actually small.
So, right now it all depends on the amount of photos that I receive. But what I’m doing is allowing spots that are 2350×1411 (7.833×4.703 - width x height). Here is an example:

For Dianne’s photos (on top), I used 5 of her photos for one spot.
(below) Jeannie sent me her collection all one one photo and Tracie had a photo of her signed jacket. So, put those two on one spot.
So, depending on the photo size and how many, I can either put several photos on one spot or one or two big photos.
My main concern is some photos I received, they are very pixelated. They are probably about 200-300 pixels….about an inch width and inch height. Too small for me to use since I need to utilize quite a bit of space. So, once I get to those sections, I’ll need to contact people on that.

Hi everyone thank you for sending me the facts about the Tohoshinki members. I’m not sure if I can use it because of copyright reasons but I definitely would like to use the basic things like (likes, dislikes, favorite food, favorite color, etc.). But I have no idea if the information was done through a fan club and if that fan club would give us permission.

I do have a question, on this fact sheet, Junsu’s birthday is listed as December 15, 1986. But for the label fact sheet it says January 1st, 1987. Is this a missprint or is this supposed to be the label information that they want public to know..hehe…
I also want to thank those of you who were able to get in contact with Korean fans, received one message so far from a fan in Korea and hopefully we can get more submissions from Korea, Japan and China.
I received a submission from the Middle East…so hopefully fans over there can contribute. We still need more Section 4 (location) photos!!!

Hey KNDY, Junsu’s real birthday is on the 15th of December 1986, but in Korea you become 1 year old when you’re born, and 1 year older with the beginning of each new year. So technically Junsu would have been 2 when he is actually only 16 days old by 1st of January 1987!
Because his parents didn’t want him to be too young when attending school, as young kids could be bullied, they decided to register him and his twin brother on the 1st of January 1987 instead. Thus Junsu has 2 birthdays, and his fans celebrate both, though mostly the December 15th one.

Me and my friends are trying to design the poster as creative as possible and maybe write more things on it so it might take some time…

I know there are male fans out there (especially those who submitted to the interview section earlier), so don’t be afraid. You can talk about how you learn fashion styles from the guys, learn dance moves and even impress the women by singing songs like “Forever Love” during karaoke. It’s all good! I havent heard about PERUCAFE, what we say si TVXQCAFE, that was a meeting that we made in a pub,and teh reporters came to tape us, and that was on peruvian channell,

SECTION 7!!! - PROFILE QUESTIONS FOR THE GUYS!!! (NOTE: THIS IS VERY LIMITED ON TIME!!!)
I had the opportunity to look at the 100 Facts which each member of Tohoshinki was able to answer years ago. Some have told me that the info. may be a bit dated. So, I asked the label if it was possible to have one for them to answer and they agreed. I will have a short profile question that for EACH member. Short as in ten questions.
LIKES, DISLIKES, FAVORITE COLOR, FAVORITE FOOD… I need 6 more… for each member.
Here’s the thing….deadline is on February 24th. No later!!! There is a chance that they may need this by Thursday the 21st!!! (USA, Pacific Time - midnight). I need to submit these to the label ASAP! So, send me your questions for them to answer in their profile. Again, because of space on this section, I can only ask 10 questions each. 4 which are the ones above. Please try not to get too personal!
Again, these are not interview questions, these are profile questions:
What stresses you out?
How do you deal with stress?
What is your favorite season?
Basic things…but since many of you are familiar with the 100 facts done earlier, hopefully you can come up something cool and different (and not too personal).

UPDATE: Hi everyone, just a quick update. I put the latest version of the mini-reviews section up on the server. I do not have access to the Korean CD-single releases (since it wasn’t released in Japan), so, I just put a text listing of them. If someone has the covers for the Korean CD singles and can send it to me, that would be very much appreciated. I need the CATALOG #, track listings (I guess I can get that from wikipedia) but if I don’t receive anything, I’ll just use the text box for now. But hopefully someone has access to their Korean single releases. As for the song with Super Junior, the label only supplied me with the second album and no mention of Tohoshinki for the album verison of “Song for you”, so I didn’ t put the album on there.

A NOTE TO ALL FAN CLUBS (Official and non-official): I would like to give you free full page ad space. 8.5 (height) x 11 (width) inches (2550pixels x 3300 pixels) (CYMK, 300 DPI) on this article. If you are a member of these clubs, please let your president or head staff know. There are so many fans in your respective countries and not many of them know how to join. So, I figured an ad that showcases: information on how to join, information on how many members and what you do in your club, etc. Also, you can put a few fun photos of your activities as well to encourage people to join your clubs. Yes, the fan clubs can submit whatever they want on their ad. Anyway to encourage new members to join and it doesn’t have to be in English, it could be the country’s language.
I haven’t received an ad from any club yet but I do know some are working on them.
But I would envision an ad with the club name, a group picture of the club members or a collage of photos with the group and then talking about the group. When the club started, how many members they have, what they do for fun or as a club and then how people can join. Is it free or is their a monthly or annual fee, how can they join, what is the group’s website and e-mail, etc. Also, if the club is International or focusing on a certain region. Pretty much a way for fans to know that your club is available to them and showcasing the fun things you do.
