Show You My Desktop?

August 19, 2008 by Dennis Amith

I’ve been a fan of the “Show Me Your Desktop” segments on “The Beta News” and I’ve found it fascinating to see how clean, how messy or how busy some professionals desktops are. So, I figured it would be nice to see how the desktops of our J!-ENT staff members (I’m actually curious myself).

I chose the background to remind myself each day that I will need to go to New York City sooner than later. Each year I have said I was going to go, I haven’t done it yet.

The programs that I use the most is Adobe Photoshop and Mozilla Firefox. But typicall it’s always the Adobe software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat and Dreamweaver all opened. Along with my Panic Software Transmit, iTunes, Twhirl and Extensis Suitcase for font management. And then of course Firefox and Thunderbird.

As for icons…I don’t have that many on there unlike my PC’s. But I’ve been trying to trim down the amount of icons on screen. My wife can’t stand that I have the dock at it’s minimum but I have so many apps that I run for graphic design, web design, video and audio and web-based applications, that I need access too. My iMac screen is 24″, so I want to make sure I get the best screen and the other things in the background are just small an unnoticeable unless I need to access them.

I operate a total of five computers. Three macs. One for main work, one for video editing or if I need to use the web and busy using my main computer for something else. Another Mac for just file storage.

Two PC’s, one that my wife primarily uses and for billing and the other if my wife bricks the other laptop, this other PC will be my backup for billing.

So, what about other J!-ENT staff members? We’ll see…

My desktop is kinda boring. It has a Disgaea 3 wallpaper :)
I sometimes put my wallpapers on rotate, so they’re usually just wallpapers of games I’m currently playing, or wallpapers of artists I’m currently listening to.
    Kinda boring XD
