Show Me Your Desktop II

August 20, 2008 by Dennis Amith

With the last post featuring my desktop, I invited our J!-ENT staffers to share with you their desktop. First up, Rabi and Bangz.

Rabi’s Desktop

As a matter of fact, I just switched to an old GLAY wallpaper a couple of hours ago.
Typically I use a daily or hourly rotation of wallpapers - the Macs have the ability to do that, and I have been rotating HYDE concert pictures and video game wallpapers (Disgaea, Poison Pink) for a while.
I switched to GLAY earlier this evening since I just saw them a few days ago and was still buzzing from the excitement. I liked this picture a lot, because JIRO is hot. Normally I wouldn’t say he’s hot - he’s usually just cute or adorable on stage, but this one I think he’s hot XD, especially he rarely dons fishnet type sleeves. In any case, this picture was from 2004 when they celebrated their 10th anniversary.

As for the rest of the desktop, I try to keep it clean, as you can see I only have two icons on there - my HD. BTW, I name all my computers in some form of “Navi”, derived from the anime Lain from a while back. So the fact that this is a 15″ Powerbook G4, I named it PowerNavi. And kinda semi-unrelated, GLAY is also sometimes being referred to as G4 ever since their 2006 single “G4″.

The only other icon I have on there is “Hercules.rdp”. As most of the world is still in Windows mode, I need a way to connect back to my office’s Windows server. That is the remote desktop connection that I use.

The dock at the bottom contains my applications. My favorite browser is Firefox. My mail program is, well, Mail. I play music with my iTunes, and I chat with Adium (displayed on the left side and blurred to protect the innocent). I do use Microsoft products such as Word to write my articles. As for viewing PDF files, I typically use Preview. Last but not least, I use QuickSilver a lot. It’s a utility that indexes a variety of items in the computer, and I can open it with the keyboard alone, without moving my hands to the mouse. It’s super handy. I also use 4 Spaces on my Mac, which is running Leopard OSX10.5, and I can’t live without Spaces.

My other computers (17″ Powerbook G4 and 20″ iMac) are for work, and are set up pretty much the same way. I have also retired my IBM Thinkpad T43 last month. I haven’t had a Windows machine at home for a year now.

Bangz’s Desktop

I use a picture that we took from Olivia Lufkin’s concert in PMX a few years ago. It was a really memorable concert, plus I don’t mind staring at her all day (on my computer). My desktop lately has been cluttered with school projects, job files and applications. Lately, was able to clean it up to just some of the small projects I’ve been working on at home.

Whenever I go on my macbook I always have to open MSN messenger, Snitter, iChat, and iTunes. These things connect me to the outside world. When I am in my room I must have music playing. Most of the time I’m at home, everyone is away at work and so the silence drives me crazy. I browse the web most of the time using Firefox.
