[JAPAN] Avril Lavigne does a surprise live performance in Shinjuku

April 29, 2007 by Dennis Amith

In a surprise event near Shinjuku Station in Tokyo, singer Avril Lavigne (22) who has been promoting her new album “The Best Damn Thing” in Japan, surprised many people when she and her band performed the song “Girlfriend” on Sunday afternoon.  Around 4,000 people were in the area, excited to see the singer who has taken Japan by storm and has been on the Oricon top 5 charts in the last two weeks (and also has had a tribute album featuring Japanese performers singing her English songs).

Although the surprise performance was not public, rumors swelled on the Internet that Avril would be performing a surprise event in Japan.

At the end of the performance, Avril told the crowd “Arigato gozaimasu minna-saikou!  Thank you!” (Thank you every one - Awesome! Thank you!)
On May 2nd, a performance by Avril from Japan will be shown on the KAT-TUN variety show on May 2nd.
