November 25, 2008 by J!-ENT · Leave a Comment

Mainichi Daily News reported:

Europeana, a new digital library and archive of European culture, was taken offline a day after its Nov. 20 launch due to overwhelming traffic, with the beleaguered site now looking at a mid-December relaunch.

Over 1,000 museums, galleries and libraries in the European Union’s 27 member states have contributed more than 2 million digitized paintings, photographs, books, films and so on to the project, which provides an easily searchable archive of the material in an attempt to make European citizens more familiar with their cultural heritage.

The return of “Top of the Pops?”

November 20, 2008 by J!-ENT · Leave a Comment

BBC reported that the music show “Top of the Pops” which was cancelled back in 2006 will be making its return ala specials.  Host Fearne Cotton will return as the host along with Reggie Yates.

BT Digital Music Awards 2008 - Arrivals

Here is an excerpt from an interview on BBC with Fearne:

What is your reaction to the news?

I am over the moon. It’s all very unexpected and TOTP is something that I really enjoyed being involved with before. To hear that we’re going to do two specials around Christmas time is going to be amazing. I cannot wait to get back in that studio.

How are they going to be different?

Well, the Christmas Day one we’re going to be really concentrating on who the Christmas number one is and building up to that excitement. That was something I always watched as a kid and wanted to know who’d got the Christmas number one. So that’s going to be very festive.

The New Year show is going to be taking a look back at the music moments of the year and all the big hits and summarising the whole year in music. It’s going to be a real celebratory show of the whole year.

High School Musical 3: Senior Year Original Soundtrack (OST) becomes the fastest selling soundtrack in the UK since records began

October 28, 2008 by Dennis Amith · Leave a Comment

Sales of Walt Disney Records’ release, through EMI Music, of the High School Musical 3: Senior Year Official Soundtrack on October 20th have already gone Platinum in the first week, making it the fastest selling soundtrack in the UK since the official sales chart began in 1994.

In 2006 and 2007, High School Musical 1 and 2 OSTs were officially the biggest selling albums in the world, selling over 14 million units each. In the UK, sales reached over 2 million in total, and in 2008, records look set to be beaten again as the first week of sales of High School Musical 3 already doubles those of the to-date most successful High School Musical 2.

The High School Musical phenomenon leapt onto the big screen for the first time, as High School Musical 3: Senior Year officially opened in the cinemas on 22 October, and is similarly breaking all cinematic records. It took £2.5 million in pre-orders in the UK alone before opening and has since taken £8.3 million in the box office opening weekend

America’s favourite high school students (Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman) hit Senior Year. Amidst a basketball championship, prom and a big spring musical featuring all of the Wildcats, Troy and Gabriella vow to make every moment last as their lifelong college dreams put the future of their relationship in question. A crew of Sophomore Wildcats (Matt Prokop, Justin Martin and Britain’s own Jemma McKenzie-Brown) join in the fun as the film’s incredible new music and exciting dance numbers take maximum advantage of the big screen.

For the first time, a CD and music DVD special edition were released simultaneously with the standard edition. The special edition offers the standard OST CD plus an additional DVD disc containing over 35 minutes of exclusive behind the scenes content. The UK version of the album contains a bonus track The Boys Are Back (US5 version).
