[ANIME] Sojitz’s ARM Corporation Transfers Rights to More Than 30 Titles

FLOWER MOUND, TX, July 4, 2008 –FUNimation Entertainment, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Navarre Corporation, and the ARM Corporation, announced today their agreement to transfer ARM’s interest in select series to FUNimation. FUNimation Entertainment will distribute and release these DVD titles in North America and other territories around the world.

Under the terms of the deal, FUNimation Entertainment obtains varied rights to these titles including home video, broadcast, digital and merchandise to such international successes as “Devil May Cry” and “Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor TV”. The complete list of acquired titles follows below:

[ANIME] FUNimation and Geneon form partnership

Since February, there has been talk of FUNimation negotiating for rights to release anime titles from Geneon and today’s announcement has been confirmed via press release posted on Anime News Network and AnimeOnDVD.com:

First Titles Scheduled for Release in Late Summer

FLOWER MOUND, July 03, 2008 — FUNimation Entertainment, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Navarre Corporation, and Geneon Entertainment (USA) Inc., a leading producer of Japanese animation, announced today their partnership to distribute select DVD titles in North America.

Under the terms of the agreement, FUNimation Entertainment obtains the exclusive rights to the manufacturing, marketing, sales and distribution of established Geneon titles, including international successes “Ergo Proxy”, “Hellsing Ultimate” and “Black Lagoon”.
Among the first titles to be released includes the special edition of “Hellsing Ultimate”, directed by Tomokazu Tokoro and produced by Satelight (“Aquarion” and “Baldr Force EXE Resolution”).

Follow up releases include “Black Lagoon Second Barrage”, “Karin”, “Kyo Kara Maoh Season 2″, and “Lyrical Nanoha”.

[ANIME] World Hobby Fair attracts anime fans in Sapporo and Chiba

Mainichi Daily News reported, “World Hobby Fair 08 Summer,” a free festival packed with fun for anime, manga and game lovers, will take place in Chiba on July 12 and 13 and in Sapporo on July 21.”

“Among over 20 companies exhibiting at the festival are toy makers Bandai and Tomy as well as video game maker Nintendo. A wide variety of events will be held during the festival, such as a special booth for the animation film “Pocket Monsters Diamond Pearl: Giratina and the Sky’s Bouquet Shaymin” (Japanese title) that will be released on July 19, as well as sales of character goods from popular manga series — including “Meitantei Conan” (Detective Conan) and “Zettai Karen Children” (Absolutely Lovely Children). There will also be autograph sessions by famous cartoonists, and hands-on games.”

[BANDAI VISUAL] Galaxy Angel Rune Episode 1 STREAMING ON dot-anime.us

Nation’s Largest Anime and Manga Convention Welcomes Celebrated and Elusive Madhouse Animator

Anaheim, California (May 29, 2008) ‹Anime Expo® 2008 announces the 1st ever
global convention appearance of Madhouse animator Hiromi Kato as an official

Mr. Kato learned about animation from renowned animator Yasuji Mori from the
age of 16 at Nippon Animation Co., LTD after being deeply impressed by the

Mr. Kato¹s first role as a key animator was for the title ³Peter Pan no
Bouken² (ADVENTURES OF PETER PAN).  He debuted as an animation director with
³Trapp Ikka Monogatari² (TRAP FAMILY STORY).  He  debuted as a character
designer with ³Daisogen No Chiisana Tenshi Bush Baby² (THE BUSH BABY).  He
also designed characters for ³Ai to Yuuki no Big Girl Tonde Buurin² (SUPER
PIG OF LOVE AND COURAGE), ³Hameln no Violin Hiki² (VIOLINIST OF HAMELN) and
other titles while at Nippon Animation Co., Ltd.  Mr. Kato was also involved

[ANIME] Bandai Visual to be dissolved by parent Japanese company, will merge with Bandai Entertainment

What may be another sign of the current state of the anime industry in North America, we have received information that Bandai Visual USA is being dissolved by their parent company BUT will be merged with Bandai Entertainment.

There are two PDF’s that were released by Bandai Namco and Bandai Visual (both are in Japanese) but various anime news sites have done translations on the PDF’s.

Ms. Ishida will be performing with Anime Expo® 2008 Guest of Honor Jyukai at
their official concert held at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live.

Ms. Ishida began her musical career after receiving a Grand Prix Award in an
anime singer contest. Soon after, she made her professional debut with the
song ³Maiden¹s Policy² in the hit TV animation Sailor Moon R. Yoko
continued to sing anime theme songs and produced other hits such as ³White
Destiny² (Pretear ­ The New Legend of Snow White TV opening theme), ³Sugar
Baby Love² (Sugar: A Little Snow Fairy TV opening theme), ³Towa no
Hana²/²Eternal Flower²( Ai Yori Aoshi TV opening theme),
³Ienaikara²/²Because I Can¹t Say it² (Petite Princess Yucie TV ending theme)
and many others.

On February 26, 2003, Ms. Ishida released her first album titled ³all of
me,² which included five anime theme songs. Following the release of her
hit series ³Para Para Max,² she attended Anime Expo® 2004 and has headlined
the Anime Fusion Tour that toured in over six locations on the east coast in
2005 and several other west coast locations in 2006. ³Hyper Yocomix 3,² the
long awaited third addition to the ³Para Para Max² series, is set to release
on June 25, 2008, and her sphere of activity is widening both in Japan and
abroad.

Masahiro Ando, legendary American voice actor David Hayter, famed Pokemon
director Masamitsu Hidaka, the dynamic duo known as Jyukai and the new

[ANIME] Shipments of popular anime stopped due to offensive scene

Mainichi Daily News reported, “A leading publisher has stopped shipments of DVDs of popular animation “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure” and relevant volumes of the book after discovering that one of the scenes could offend Muslims.”

“Shueisha Inc. and animation company A.P.P.P. Co. said a scene in Episode 6 of “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure” depicted the Quran in an inappropriate way.”

“In the scene, Jojo’s enemy is shown dropping a book that contains some text from the Quran. The Quran does not appear in the same scene in the original cartoon book, but the staff of the animation company added the Arabic text to the book without knowing that the text was part of the Quran, according to Shueisha.”
