PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA TO APPEAR ON “THE VIEW,” JULY 29, THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY A SITTING U.S. PRESIDENT HAS VISITED A DAYTIME TALK SHOW

July 26, 2010 by J!-ENT · View Comments

Barbara Walters Makes Exclusive In-Studio Appearance in Honor of This Rare Occasion

Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie, executive producers of the ABC’s Emmy® Award-winning talk show, “The View,” announced today that President Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States, will be the featured guest, THURSDAY, JULY 29 (11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, ET), marking the first time in history a sitting United States President has visited a daytime talk show. President Obama’s unprecedented appearance is part of the show’s continuing “Red, White & View” campaign, which is committed to political guests and discussions.

Barbara Walters, creator/executive producer and co-host of “The View” will, in honor of this rare occasion, make one exclusive in-studio appearance to mark this historic hour for “The View.”
Ms. Walters underwent heart valve replacement surgery in May. Earlier this month she chatted about her recovery with pals Whoopi, Joy, Elisabeth and Sherri live via Skype®. It was her first nationally televised appearance since undergoing surgery.

“We are so pleased and honored that President Obama will be a guest on ‘The View.’ The President last appeared on the program in March 2008 while he was still a Senator, and First Lady Michelle Obama was a featured guest co-host in June 2008. This shows that both the President and First Lady feel that our show is an influential and important source of information and news. I’m also going to appear on ‘The View’ Thursday for the first time since my open heart surgery in May. I will return full-time in September,” said Ms. Walters.

President Obama’s interview, scheduled to tape on Wednesday, July 28, will touch on topics including his administrations accomplishments, jobs, the economy, the Gulf oil spill and family life inside the White House.

President Obama’s last appearance on “The View” was in March 2008. He was also a featured guest on November 2004, when promoting his book, Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance.

“Red, White & View”

In 2008-09, the five spirited hosts of ABC’s popular talk and entertainment show, “The View,” left an indelible mark on the political landscape. Whether discussing the day’s political headlines, from the war in Iraq to universal healthcare and teen pregnancy, the latest musings from our nation’s capitol or political infidelities, the outspoken hosts can always be relied on for their unique opinions, quick wit and sparking colorful water cooler conversations that can only be seen, live, exclusively on “The View” (11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, ET) on the ABC Television Network. In September 2008, the show launched a successful “Red, White & View” campaign highlighting interviews and informational segments that helped promote civic responsibility during the election season. The “Red, White & View” campaign was another example of how “The View” established itself as an important player in the political process.

About “The View”

“The View” features Daytime Emmy Award-winning hosts Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd. It’s the original forum in which real women discuss everyday issues, share their opinions and engage in colorful conversations. “The View,” broadcast in HDTV and produced in humble 2-channel stereo sound, is now available to watch online daily at 4:00 p.m., ET/1:00 p.m., PT on the ABC Digital Full Episode Player at ABC.com. “The View” is produced by ABC Daytime and Ms. Walters’ Barwall Productions, with Ms. Walters serving as executive producer along with Bill Geddie, who also serves as executive producer for “The Barbara Walters Specials.” “The View” is directed by Mark Gentile. “EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION” WANTS YOU TO PUT AWAY THE TISSUE!

July 26, 2010 by J!-ENT · View Comments

This No-Tears Episode Guaranteed to Make You Laugh with Help from Top Comics To match the sound of joy and laughter in the Houston, Texas home of Eric and Elaine Johnson and their five daughters, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will produce an innovative tears-free episode. With help from some top comedians, Ty and the design team guarantee that the audience will be laughing instead of crying throughout this episode. In yet another new way to surprise the deserving family, the Johnsons were sent to a local comedy club in Houston. During the show, Ty and the design team surprised them with the news that their home will be the latest recipient of a makeover.

Eric and Elaine Johnson have five fun-loving and flamboyant daughters, ages five to 14 years old. The girls share their parents’ love of life and their home is full of laughter, singing and fashion shows. This energy and spirit spills into Elaine and Eric’s work of wanting to improve their neighborhood one family at a time.

Married 15 years with backgrounds as youth mentors, Eric and Elaine became licensed counselors in 2006 when they realized the African American community was being overpowered by a seeming epidemic of family disintegration. The Johnsons began a marriage and family counseling non-profit called Optimum Lifestyle with the goal of strengthening marriages in fun, creative ways.

The Johnsons take inner-city families to the outdoors to give them a camp-like experience and teach them about teamwork and trust. Eric is passionate about African American fathers stepping up to play a larger role in their children’s lives. Their couples’ seminars, which are provided to anyone in need for either no-charge or a nominal fee, have possibly saved 1500 marriages and kept countless kids from growing up in single parent homes.

When the family inherited a run-down inner city house, they planned to transform it. But the one-two punch of 2008′s Hurricane Ike and the economic downturn put that dream on hold. Undaunted, they continued their mission while living in a dangerously dilapidated house. Now the EMHE design team can help make their home safe and sound — and most importantly — match the delight and happiness that lives within it.

The Johnson family will go on a dream vacation while “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” team leader Ty Pennington, designers Michael Moloney, Ed Sanders and Paige Hemmis and local builder HHN Homes and community volunteers rebuild the home. The home location address is: 3613 Goodhope, Houston, TX 77021.

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is produced by Endemol USA, of Endemol Holding, and executive-produced by Brady Connell & George Verschoor. David Goldberg is Chairman, Endemol North America.
