The return of Juliana’s Tokyo and the “bodikon”

September 7, 2008 by Dennis Amith

As avex celebrates its 20th Anniversary, the record label is also celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the defunct club that helped build the music label through various 20th Anniversary Juliana’s Tokyo events at various clubs each month. [for more information on Juliana’s Tokyo and avex’s involvement in the club scene in the 90’s, check out J!-ENT’s “Farewell to Velfarre Special Feature”.

With Juliana’s Tokyo the epitome of the “dance club” during the bubble economy featuring dancing girls in skimpy or half dressed outfits aka Bodikon, DJ’s from all over the world and attract thousands of people, the magic was again recreated for “The Legend of Juliana’s Tokyo @ DIFFER on September 6th which would bring 13,000 people to the event.

Performing in the rafters with their tight dresses and fans were C.C. girls Noriko (now 40) who was one of the original dancers at Juliana’s Tokyo joined with others who danced at the club at the time and new girls donning the “bodikon”.

Performing at the event was avex’s first major Japanese group on the label TRF (who performed without lead vocalist YU-KI who was unable to come due to an illness) and also Nezumi Sempai.

Avex who collaborated with Juliana’s Tokyo for music compilation albums will again release compilation albums to celebrate Juliana’s Tokyo.
