Daily Yomiuri’s Matsumaru Kumi wrote, “A considerable number of women in Japan grew up playing with dress-up dolls. For many of them, a Licca-chan doll will have been their favorite.”
“After the doll debuted in 1967, many girls have enjoyed changing her dresses and tiny pairs of shoes and fantasizing conversations Licca-chan would have with other dolls. A variety of Licca-chan homes, often supplied with a range of furniture in dreamy colors, also have been part of the long-lasting attraction of playing with Licca-chan.”
“Starting Tuesday, Seibu department store (www2.seibu.co.jp/ikebukuro) in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, will look back on the 40-year history of the girlish toy, mainly through a display of 200 Licca-chan dolls from the first and second generations of the character, released in 1967 and 1972, respectively.”
“In Girlish Culture: Licca-chan Ten, the dolls will be wearing outfits released at that time, reflecting the fashions that were current.”
