‘SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE’ RETURNS WITH A PAIR OF LIVE SHOWS IN MARCH FEATURING DWAYNE JOHNSON AND RAY LAMONTAGNE MARCH 7 AND TRACY MORGAN AND KELLY CLARKSON MARCH 14

February 28, 2009 by J!-ENT · Leave a Comment

NEW YORK – February 27, 2008 – NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” returns with back-to-back live shows in March.

Dwayne Johnson returns for his third time hosting March 7, and stars in Disney’s “Race to Witch Mountain,” which opens Friday, March 13. He also recently wrapped filming the comedy “Tooth Fairy,” starring alongside Julie Andrews, Ashley Judd and Billy Crystal. Since his breakout role in the film, “The Mummy Returns” and box office powerhouse “The Scorpion King,” Dwayne Johnson has firmly established himself as one of Hollywood’s top leading men. Johnson excelled as a high school All-American and star defensive lineman for the University of Miami Hurricanes and led his team to win the National Championship in 1991. Johnson has numerous film credits under his belt including “Get Smart,” “Southland Tales,” “Gridiron Gang,” “The Rundown,” “Walking Tall” and “Be Cool”.

Singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne will join Johnson as the show’s musical guest debut. His latest release “Gossip in the Grain,” debuted at #3 on the Billboard charts during its first week and was the top selling album on iTunes. LaMontagne has won over music critics with a unique voice that Rolling Stone Magazine describes as “full of the warm yearning of a young Van Morrison.” His debut release “Trouble” was a top 40 hit in the United Kingdom and the album peaked at number 5 in that country. It sold over 400,000 copies worldwide. LaMontagne’s sophomore release “Till the Sun Turns Black” was a top 40 hit in the United States, peaking at #28 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 28,000 copies in its first week of release.

“30 Rock” star and SNL alum Tracy Morgan will host March 14. Morgan plays the wild and unpredictable movie star Tracy Jordan in NBC’s two-time Emmy Award-winning comedy, “30 Rock.” Morgan will appear in Disney’s 2009 animated summer blockbuster “G-Force” and also in David O’Russell’s feature film “Nailed,” starring alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel. As a stand-up comic who headlined across the country, Morgan was first introduced to TV audiences in his role as “Hustleman” on the hit comedy series “Martin.” Morgan joined “Saturday Night Live” in 1996, where he appeared for seven seasons and created such memorable characters as “Astronaut Jones” and “Brian Fellows.” After leaving “Saturday Night Live,” Morgan went on to star in his own comedy series “The Tracy Morgan Show” and as the voice of “Spoonie Luv” on “Crank Yankers.” Morgan’s feature-film credits include “The Longest Yard,” “Little Man,” “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back,” “Head of State,” “First Sunday” and “Superhero Movie”. The “30 Rock” cast won the 2009 SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Morgan received an individual nomination in both 2008 and 2009 for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Kelly Clarkson, whose fourth album “All I Ever Wanted” is due out on March 10, returns to the SNL stage as musical guest. Clarkson, who has sold over twenty million records worldwide, first appeared on the music scene during the first season of “American Idol” in 2002. Clarkson beat out more than 10,000 people to land the $1 million recording contract as the show’s first winner. Her first single, “A Moment Like This” came out in late September of 2002 and sold nearly 250,000 copies in its first week. Her superstardom was secured with “Breakaway” in 2005, which sold over ten million copies, spun off five Top Ten hits, and stayed on the charts for two full years. The platinum-selling follow-up, “My December”, arrived in 2007. Clarkson has had nine of her singles becoming Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2008, she joined VH1’s list of 10 sexiest women of the new millennium at #8 and also hit #28 on Vh1’s Top 30 Hottest Rock Front Women. As of 2008 she is one of the 10 most played artists on adult contemporary radio. Clarkson won over 60 awards and received over 100 nominations. She has won 2 Grammy Awards (Best Female Pop Vocal Performance “Since U Been Gone”, Best Pop Vocal Album “Breakaway”).

“Saturday Night Live” is from SNL Studios in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels. Steve Higgins and Marci Klein producers. Ken Aymong supervising producer. Seth Meyers is head writer. Don Roy King directs.

DVD INFORMATION: Region 2, Duration: 6 minutes, 4:3

  1. 音のない世界 (Music Video)

Beautiful, enchanting and as always, Akko’s vocals are unique and her own.  Simply another solid CD single from My Little Lover.

“Otono no Sekai/Toki no Bell” is the 22nd CD single from My Little Lover and the sixth CD single feature Akko as a solo artist.

There has been quite a shakeup with My Little Lover as the core team that formed the group are no more and Akko and MLL composer and musician, Takeshi Kobayashi (famous producer and former husband) have since went their separate ways.

But I have to say that since going solo, Akko still has managed to keep the My Little Lover sound alive.  Teamed up with talented musicians, her music is still as beautiful now as it was back then.

“Otono no Sekai” is a ballad that was used for Japanese TV network TBS and a theme for the drama “Love Letter” and was the #1 downloaded ringtone on recochoku (note: In Japan, the majority of music sold in Japan are mobile based digital files and ringtones).    The song was written by Akko with music by Tomoya Matsuura and arrangement by Makoto Minagawa.

The track showcases acoustic guitar, strings and overall, reminiscent of popular, classic My Little Lover ballads from the past.

The second double A-sided track “Toki no Bell” is a commercial theme song used for Daihatsu’s “Mira” and an upbeat track written by Akko, music by etsuhiko and arrangement by Makoto Minagawa.

The third and fourth tracks are songs from Akko’s “My Little Lover Live#5 acoakko” live concert back in Dec. 2008.  The songs featured is their classic hit “Hello, Again ~Mukashi kara aru Basho~ (acoakko Live ver.)” which features acoustic guitar, keyboards and strings.  A beautiful live version of a true classic.

The fourth live track is “Ai to Heiwa” which means “Love and Peace”, a track that was featured on My Little Lover’s seventh album “Identity”.  Another beautiful live track featuring Akko on vocals, Masayoshi Fukukawa on guitar and Toshiyuki Mori on keyboards.

The remaining two tracks are the instrumentals for the first two songs.

As for the DVD, the music video for “Otono no Sekai” is included and features Akko walking along the shoreline, as with another woman and reflecting the song’s title “Otono no Sekai” which means a “World with no Sound”.

As for the CD insert, the insert contains the lyrics and production credits.

I may be a bit biased towards My Little Lover.  I’ve always enjoyed the group because of their sound, their willingness to experiment and just doing the kind of music that they want.  And although the trio that I knew back in the 90’s are no more, the core soul of My Little Lover, being the vocalist Akko, is still a major part of the group and showcasing her amazing skills as a songwriter but she’s also a talented musician.

The CD single is another solid release by the My Little Lover and if you are a fan of Akko or MLL’s music, then definitely pick this CD single up!

Lily Allen is ticked at the New York Times

February 27, 2009 by J!-ENT · Leave a Comment

Lily Allen is upset with the New York Times who took photos of the music artist at her home for an article but then gave the photos to a third party, the tabloid, OK Magazine. So ticked about the whole situation, Allen titled her rant on her blog “The New York Time are cheap skanks”.

Allen posted on her MySpace blog:

Earlier on in the day a photographer whose name escapes me came round to the house to take a picture to accompany the NYT piece, they wanted one picture of me in my home setting. Seeing as the piece was so intimate and the biggest part of the interview had been conducted at my house. It is unusual for me to allow photographers into my home but these seemed like special circumstances and after all TNYT is one of the most respected news publications in the world.
The article came out little over a month ago and it was great, a really nice piece with a picture of me sat on my sofa, on the cover of the arts section.

But of course, Its when she was contacted about the photos being used as an “world exclusive” for OK Magazine. Allen posted on her MySpace blog:

Now, last week, when I was in LA I got this email from Murray Chalmers , who does my press in the UK “this is exactly why i want everyone to use photo contracts! i dont know who these at home pics were done for but they have been sold to OK which is a pain in the arse as it looks like we have done OK…” there was then a link to OK’s website with the tagline “ World Exclusive, At home with Lily Allen”. Needless to say I was mortified, in fact I was in tears, 6 photos of inside my home for everyone to see, and a made up interview that was very misleading. All this because I’d let the NYT photographer into my home. I was furious and got on the phone immediately.
I assumed we had one of these contracts in place, but the American PR agency assured me the NYT have an unwritten agreement with the PR’s and nothing like this has ever happened before, they were as upset and angry as I am.  In the end I got an apology from OK,but the NYT refuse to accept what they have done is morally wrong. Everybody assures me this is completely unheard of for the NYT to act in such a cheap and disgusting way.  I found this on an email trail, its an explanation from the NYT

I am sorry to say that we have no record or recollection of your client
or her representatives ever requesting any restriction on our
exploitation of the photographs. Indeed, it is not our general policy
to accede to such restrictions, so it is certainly not something we
would have agreed to without a written agreement confirming such
arrangement.

As the copyright owner of thousands of photographs, a significant part
of our business, like most news organizations, is the syndication of
photos to third parties. This is very standard in the news business and
I’m sorry that it comes as a surprise to your client. Under the
circumstances, we are unable to provide you with the assurances you have
requested.

I do hope, however, that our correspondence sheds some light on this
issue for your client’s future arrangements.

Allen ended her blog post with:

Uuuuurrggh , so patronizing, and gross. The world has become a dark place when The New York Times considers OK magazine to be “the news business”. Sorry if that made for tedious reading but, I think the NYT have behaved really badly and I wanted to vent . It’s one thing posing for a picture fro TNYT and wholly another letting OK into your house, and I didn’t even get paid ☹

Lily, you have every right to vent luv!

And we wonder if Lily is thinking of this song when she thinks of the New York Times:
