[CHINA] Maggie Cheung to be featured in Pirelli 2008 calendar

CRIEnglish.com reported, “Hong Kong film star Maggie Cheung has been chosen to show her glamor to the world on the Pirelli 2008 Calendar, the only Chinese selected for the 12 supermodel calendar, the Beijing-based newspaper ‘The First’ reported on Friday.”

“The Pirelli calendar is an annual publication issued by Italian conglomerate Pirelli & Co that has made its name for its artistic portraits of the world’s most beautiful faces since it appeared in 1964.”

[HONG KONG] Twins promote Winter Holiday travel to Hong Kong

Twins (Gillian Cheung and Charlene Choi) are currently promoting winter holiday travel to Hong Kong.

According to CRIEnglish.com, “Pop Hong Kong double-girl band Twins became “Christmas Angels” in short films and plane ads promoting this year’s winter tourism festival in Hong Kong.”

“The short films are expected to be broadcasted on TV starting this Friday.”

[KOREA] What Korean actresses wore at the red carpet

In America, everyone interested in the Oscar or Golden Globe Awards always have interest in what people are wearing and who designed it.  The same in Korea for the Blue Dragon Awards.

According to Chosun, “A glimpse of true glamour graced the red carpet at the Blue Dragon Awards last Friday, when Korea’s most beautiful actresses wore some of the most stunning dresses the fashion world could produce.”

“The dress Jeon Do-yeon chose for the awards, where she won the Best Actress award, was a W10 million dress (US$1=W929) by Dior. She had worn a Ralph Lauren champagne gold dress for the Cannes Film Festival, where she also won best actress honors.”

[Eh?][Update] The exploding cell phone was a lie?

After yesterday’s story from S. Korea about a person dying from an exploding cell phone, more news is coming from S. Korea that it was a lie.  Ehh?

According to Chosun, “The death of a quarry worker in his 30s in Cheongwon County, North Chungcheong Province on Wednesday was not caused by an exploding mobile phone but by a heavy vehicle accident, police said Thursday. Police said a colleague of the victim’s lied about the cause of death to conceal his fault.”

“According to Cheongju Heungdeok police in charge of investigation on this case, the colleague identified as Kwon (58), who reported the accident on Thursday, killed Seo (33) while driving a backhoe but later told police the cause of death was an exploding mobile phone in Seo’s breast pocket. Police have sought an arrest warrant for Kwon for negligence resulting in death.”

JapanToday’s Chris Betros recently interviewed Tanaka Lena for her upcoming film “Moryo no Hako”.

In an excerpt from Betros interview:

“Since winning a Japan Academy Award for best newcomer at the age of 18 in 1998, Lena Tanaka has shown an impressive versatility in many genres, from romantic comedy to horror to drama. “I always wanted to be an actress ever since I can remember,” says Tanaka who was born in Fukuoka. This is her first interview with an English publication and Tanaka (who recently changed her first name from Rena to Lena) is enjoying the occasion, even trying out a few phrases in English. “I’d like to take lessons and study acting in English one day,” she says.”

“Tanaka started her career as a model when she was 15. Two years later, she moved to Tokyo and began her movie career. In her short career, she has gained many fans, especially in China (her website has a Chinese language page). After her award-winning performance in “Ganbatte Ikimasshoi,” Tanaka received a best actress nomination for “Hatsukoi.” in 2001.”

“When I was young, I didn’t know anything about acting. I was so happy just to be in show business,” she says. “Now that I’ve worked with so many great actors and actresses, I have learned there are different styles of acting and the various ways directors express their ideas.”

[JAPAN] Alicia Keyes greets and sings to 2,500 fans in Tokyo

American R&B singer Alicia Keyes currently has one of the hottest albums in the world with “As I Am” and on Friday, November 30th, performed a few songs in front of 2,500 fans in attendance.

According to the Associated Press, “She said the album’s success shows the universal appeal of her music.”

“I want to reach all kinds of listeners. It means a lot to me that people from all places can appreciate the music,” she said. “I can’t wait to come back for a big tour.”

Rhythm Zone diva Koda Kumi (25) and Avex Trax group TRF were among the many people at the premiere event of the BLUE MAN GROUP in Roppongi. Koda Kumi joined the BLUE MAN GROUP back in August on stage and wore a blue dress in support.

The event in collaboration with Avex Group brought out around 900 people from the Avex company to celebrate the company’s 20th Anniversary.

Singer/model Leah Dizon (21) was at a Christmas Tree Illlumination Event for Ameblo (the site that Dizon uses for her blog in Japan). The singer was asked if she would be celebrating Christmas in Japan. Dizon replied that last year, she went back to the US to spend Christmas with her family but for this year, she’s unsure. When asked if she will be on NHK’s Kouhaku Uta Gassen, Dizon replied that if she was asked, she would like to participate.

But in this special, Kimura Takuya as Zero goes into a town and sees if people know who he is… which include making a surprise visit to a girl’s basketball club.
