[CHINA] Taiwan singer Mavis Fan performs in Beijing

October 29, 2007 by Dennis Amith · Leave a Comment

CRIEnglish.com reports, “Taiwan pop singer Mavis Fan and her band “100%” arrived in Beijing on Sunday to promote her latest rock’n roll album “Breakthrough”.

“Mavis Fan enjoyed an immediate success when she started her singing career in the image of a lively, happy girl of 18 in 1995. The singer soon became a household name for her frisky and even childish pop songs and was dubbed “the little demon girl”, derived from her second album The Little Demon Girl’s Magic Book in 1996.”

[KOREA] Ok So-ri fires back in marital affair allegations

October 29, 2007 by Dennis Amith · 1 Comment

Last week, the divorce of actress Ok So-ri and Park Chul was announced. Then days later, So-ri’s business partner told the media that she was having an affair with an Italian chef.

Now, actress Ok So-ri is firing back in a press conference.

According to the article on Chosun, “Appearing with her family, Ok told reporters she had contemplated divorce for a long time, and G. was merely her private English and cooking tutor. She denied any extramarital relationship with the cook, saying that she learned English and cooking from him in cafes, restaurants or his home.”

“Ok said she had seldom been happy during her marriage and her husband had rarely had sex with her — no more than 10 times during the 11-year marriage. The actress said she suffered depression due to the lack of conversation with her husband. According to Ok, she demanded a divorce, but Park rejected the request, telling her to see another man instead. Around the time, Ok met a classical singer at a concert and dated him for three months. But Ok ended the relationship when the singer started asking for money. She said her husband knew of the affair.”

[WII] WII-KLY UPDATE: THREE NEW CLASSIC GAMES ANNOUNCED FOR WII SHOP CHANNEL

October 29, 2007 by Dennis Amith · Leave a Comment

Oct. 29, 2007 This Halloween, you needn’t leave your own living room to encounter spooky spirits and creepy creatures from mysterious otherworlds. The Wii Shop Channel is celebrating the year’s most frightfully fun holiday by offering a mix of eerie games that’ll keep players’ spines tingling. Mash with monsters in a classic Castlevania sequel, tangle with supernatural samurai or battle as a powerful magician-you’re bound to discover cool tricks and visual treats no matter which titles you choose. Happy Hallo-Wii!

Today Nintendo adds three new classic games to the popular Wii™ video game system’s Wii Shop Channel. The games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the channel every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:

Castlevania® II Simon’s Quest (NES®, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone - Mild Fantasy Violence, 500 Wii Points): In this one-player adventure, you’ll take on the role of Simon Belmont once again and duel to the death with Count Dracula. Grab your legendary whip, Vampire Killer, and roam freely through Transylvania on a quest to find the count’s missing body parts-these are the key to breaking an evil curse. This quest won’t be easy, though, for you must battle hideous fiends who stalk the land. In addition to the intense action and tight control the Castlevania series is known for, this sequel also introduced several unique game-play elements into the fold. Build experience the longer you play, buy weapons and items from merchants, or talk with villagers to get clues (some of which are false). Watch as day turns to night and then back again. Take a deep breath, steady your nerves, and help Simon end his curse and defeat the count once and for all.

SAMURAI-GHOST™ (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older - Animated Blood and Violence, 600 Wii Points): This action platformer features a samurai ghost from the depths of the underworld. In a past war, Kagekiyo managed to defeat the shogun Yoritomo and his clan. However, their evil spirits were not completely destroyed, and now, in the world known as Dark Side, they seek the time of their rebirth. In order to shatter those ambitions, Kagekiyo must make his way across seven zones and head for “The Heart of the Darkside” where Yoritomo lies in wait. Use spirit weapons to power up your sword, or other items, such as candles to recover health, and defeat the endless hordes of enemies. Each zone is not only protected by a boss but also includes demons as well as real samurai from 12th-century Japan. Get ready for some intense one-on-one combat action.

MAGICIAN LORD (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen - Blood and Fantasy Violence, 900 Wii Points): Released in 1990 and regarded as one of the NEOGEO’s earliest signature games, this side-scrolling platformer mixes action with the mystical world of fantasy. A magician named Elta, last descendant of the famed Magician Lord, takes on an epic adventure to save the world from the evil Gul-Agieze. Elta must battle through eight stages, collecting the eight tomes of power that are key to defeating Gul-Agieze and his evil plans. By obtaining orbs in one of three colors (elements) that appear during the game, Elta’s offensive powers and jumping abilities can be strengthened. The effect varies considerably depending on the combination of elements, though, and Elta can transform into six different forms: Waterman, Dragon Warrior, Shinobi, Samurai, Raijin or Poseidon. Can you help Elta to become the new Magician Lord?

October 28, 2007 by Dennis Amith · Leave a Comment

I was messing around with Michael 3.0 (Major Cache by Uzilite) and Victoria 3 (L75 Femme Fatale) and had “Street Fighter II HD” in my brain.  So, I figured why not mess around with the idea.  Used Poser 6 and Adobe Photoshop CS3.

[MMC][BLOG] I arrived back with no Leopard but with 2GB of RAM and now mobile

October 27, 2007 by Dennis Amith · Leave a Comment

Yesterday was the big day… the release of Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard).

It was also the day that I was going to go mobile via purchasing an EVDO USB modem and got the USB720 from Verizon for very cheap that day, so waiting paid off.

I tested out the EVDO via a cup of iced mocha at Starbuks and went on Justin.tv to stream a bit. Everything went well but realized my battery power is less desireable that I would need to purchase a better extended battery [note: I'm not using my Mac, I decided to use my Compaq Presario - Reason being, I wouldn't cry if I ruin/drop a low-priced PC laptop].

But wanted to try stream on justin.tv, so Friday would be a wonderful day to try.

After purchasing my iMac last week, I was told to come back and pickup my copy. Well, the Apple Store is about an hour away, no problem…was very stoked to pick it up and get my t-shirt.

Well, unfortunately to find out several minutes of getting there that since I purchased the computer, I would have to get it online.

Well, there was a little miscommunication, was a bit bummed but what can you do?

So, then I tried to stream…and what do you know. Battery power died. Streaming and using EVDO, saps my power in half.

So, the family and I went to CompUSA, after seeing how sluggish things ran on this laptop, went to look for a battery and saw that 1GB of RAM was on sale. I had a GB of RAM already but decided to go 2GB since RAM was cheap.

No extended battery, so may need to go to HP or eBay for that.

But I still wanted to be online, so purchased those cigarette lighter adapters and was able to stream again.

Capped off the night at Red Robin but I still feel a bit bummed that I didn’t get Leopard.

So, decided to do some Poser work and during rendering for a 3D project that I was up until 3:00 a.m., wake up to find out that the program crashed.

So, this morning…to my wife’s chagrin, streamed this morning on our way to the gym. Took my son to the park’s playground, streamed online with whatever battery power I had. Went on twitter and I realized that I’m a wired parent.

I watch all the parents around me and here I am watching my kid with a webcam, streaming and posting on Twitter. Hehe… I’m a wired parent. Weird to say but it’s the truth.

So, now recharging my laptop, typing this and it’s 10:00 a.m. Need to plan my day.

But can’t resist feeling empty not having OS 10.5 after being so excited for it.

[PSP] FIRST GLANCE: syphon filter: LOGAN’S SHADOW

October 26, 2007 by Dennis Amith · Leave a Comment

GAME: syphon filter: LOGAN’S SHADOW

ESRB RATING: T for TEEN (Language, Violence)

GAME INFO: 1-8 Players, Memory Stick Duo, PSP Headset Compatible, Wi-Fi Compatible (Ad Hoc and Infrastructure)

OFFICIAL WEBSITE

wg-review.jpg

This is a first glance review of “syphon filter: LOGAN’S SHADOW” for the Sony PSP, the second game continuing the storyline of Gabe Logan on the portable system.

The “syphon filter” games feature a game similar to the Metal Gear Solid and Tom Clancy “Splinter Cell” games but not too intense on the stealth but yet still features a very cool storyline and a game that has you controlling Gabe (or his partner) by taking down enemies ala 3rd person shooter and using a bit of stealth to accomplish your mission.

One of my favorite games on the PSP is the first syphon filter game “DARK MIRROR” which was an enjoyable game because of its cool storyline and was critically acclaimed for its gameplay, visuals and what was packed into a single UMD at the time.

With “LOGAN’S SHADOW”, so far I have completed the first three chapters and near the end of the fourth and loving it! In the first game for the PSP, the game was intense and a drew you in as the storyline was intense and emotional as characters from the original game are in it and the game was a bit had an emotional side to it as Gabe’s former love is involved.

In the second game, Gabe Logan is brought in for a secret mission by the government but it appears he has been setup. Gabe learns that his partner maybe a double agent and he goes out to search for her to find out the truth. The game is more action-based and the AI are not as dumb as the previous game.

One thing that you will notice is that many missions take place underwater in the first two chapters. Also, a bit more complex than the previous game. Graphics are the same but still look good in game and the cut scenes still look awesome. Audio is similar and still sound great!

Controls are the same. use the R to shoot. Use the analog nub stick to control. Use the directional pad (press left to go to the mode where you select a flashlight or specific goggle - night vision, infrared, etc. and press right to select a weapon). You can stock up to four types of weapons and grenades. L button is used for camera viewing.

The featured modes are:

SINGLE PLAYER MODE: In this mode, you start out with training and when beating the training mode, the game begins in which you play as Gabe and complete missions.

MISSION MODE: Mission mode is where you can play the missions that you have beaten in Single Player Mode but by replaying it, you can improve your career ratings. This will allow you to explore different play styles and experiment with alternate stealth paths, discover environmental skills and unlock more darts for use with the MB-150 Agency Sniper Rifle.

The benefit of replaying is to find the hidden files which will unlock concept art, audio files and bonus movies.

CAREER RATING: This menu displays the status of Agency Ratings. This keeps track of stats for stealth kills, combat knife kills, elite weapons kills, survival skills (ability to complete a mission without dying), tactical weapons (dart kills) and sharpshooter skills (head shots). Each rating has four ranks.

INFRASTRUCTURE and AD HOC ONLINE PLAY: There are different types of online gameplay. Ad Hoc allows two or more individual PSP systems to communicate directly with each other. Infrastructure allows you to go into a lobby, host a game, join in on hosted games and be part of a community. Games available are:

- TEAM DEATHMATCH - Team based. Be the first to reach the score limit or have the most kills when time expires.

- RETRIEVAL - Team based. First team to reach the capture limit.

- SABOTAGE - Locate the detonator code, arm and detonate the emy team’s nuclear warhead.

- ROGUE AGENT - No teams. Capture the rogue agent credentials and eliminate the opposition.

- DEATHMATCH - No teams. Be the first agent to reach the score limit.

I don’t really play multi-player (which are the big reasons people like first-person or third-person shooters) but I’m more of a single player (love it for the storyline) gamer but from what I’ve played, the developers turned up the notch for each mission.

One mission has you trying to sneak on pirate boats and eliminating everyone on the boat and blowing up the ships with C4. Another has you underwater and taking on an enemy underwater vehicle. Definitely more intense and the enemy AI, they are ready for you and you need to keep on your toes.

So, far I’m enjoying the “syphon filter: LOGAN’S SHADOW” and I’ll be back with a final review after completion.
