[JAPAN] Ganguro and Gothic Lolita Fusion

In the recent article on Wai Wai, it appears the Ganguro Gyaru look and the Gothic Lolita look is now being fused into one.  Two completely opposites.

According to the article, “Ganguro gyaru, young women known for their deep tans, panda-like make-up and bright fashions are fusing with once bitter enemy “Gothic Lolitas” in their Goth garb and little girl look to create a new fashion mode in trendier parts of Tokyo, according to Weekly Playboy (11/5).”

“There were three rules that made up the definition of a gyaru: a tanned face, flamboyant make-up and hair dyed in the lightest color possible,” Kyoko, the girl once dubbed the Empress of (gyaru haven) Shibuya, tells Weekly Playboy. “Anyway, you’ve got to look as flashy as possible. Scary if need be, which gives you the mental strength that’s part of being a gyaru.”

[PR] THIS FALL PURPLE SKY HONORS THE INDEPENDENT SPIRIT

The Captains bring Romantic Garage Rock to New York, the World

If you’ve never been romanced by a man with a “rose that never wilts” or seen three men in identical red jackets jumping in unison on one leg while playing their instruments, well sisters and misters, have we got a band for you. Purple SKY magazine introduces our cover artist for fall 2007, the self-proclaimed “Last Group Sounds” band, The Captains. In an exclusive interview with Kizuhiko, the eccentric leader takes us through Japan’s early rock history and discusses, among other things, why he’s earned the nickname “The Prince of Roses.” Be prepared to swoon at the sight of the lush, full color photos of the band taken on location at Statue of Liberty Island.

The Captains aren’t the only ones rockin’ the boat, other indie acts are fighting for top billing, from fan favorite visual-kei artists like SID and Ayabie, to fresh faces like Back-On, Thee Out Mods, Sadie and ex-Psycho Le Cemu members seek and Aya’s new monster mash, Mix Speaker’s, Inc. [JAPAN] Gal “The Gluttony Queen” inspiring fast food and combini to increase their portions?

According to the latest Kuchikomi on Japan Today, Sone Natsuko (Gal Sone, member of idol trio Gyaruru) who has been called the Gluttony Queen for being a slim female celeb able to consume large amounts of food.

According to the article, “This past July on a Nihon TV network program, she emerged victorious, working her way through 100 pieces of sushi, 10 plates of spaghetti and 50 gyoza,” raves a variety program director. “Then in September she was on TBS, where she polished off 100 pieces of sushi, 10 portions of barbequed beef and 10 servings of curry.”

“In open defiance of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare’s efforts to discourage the spread of disorders related to the so-called metabolic syndrome — a prime cause of which is overindulgence in unhealthy foods — a number of restaurant chains and retailers have been boosting their portions. McDonald’s Japan may have initiated the trend back in January with its 380 yen Mega Mac, whose 754-kilocalorie count was roughly three times that of a regular hamburger.”
