[US] DENSHA OTOKO CONTINUES TO GET MORE US PRESS

The Japanese story (availabe as dorama, book, anime or film version) of “Densha Otoko” (Train Man) continues to get more US coverage and this time from Wired.
Densha Otoko is about an otaku (although used exclusively by many Americans for hardcore anime fans, in Japan it can be used to anyone obsessed over something. And in this case, the main character is obsessed with Gundam figures and manga) who stands up to a drunk main on the train who is harassing a beautiful woman. The main character goes to his friends (well, Internet friends on a BBS) for their advice when he becomes smitten towards the woman he saves.

[KOREA] CELEBS SELECTED FOR “FANTASY SPOUSE” SURVEY

In a recent article on Chosun Ilbo, a survey discovered that single men would like to marry actress Jeon Ji-hyun and single women with singer Rain.
According to the article “in the poll of 437 (217 men, 220 women) single members of the matchmaking firm Sunwoo, top on the men’s wish-list were Jeon Ji-hyun (13.4 percent), Kim Tae-hee (6.0 percent), Lee Hyo-lee (5.5 percent), Song Hye-gyo (5.1 percent).”

[US] PLAYSTATION 2 TO OUTSELL PS3 AND OTHER NEXT GEN CONSOLES IN 2007?

In a recent article on Business Week, Kenji Hall writes that the Sony Playstation 2 will outsell the PS3 in 2007.
“”The PS2 will have legs well into 2008,” says Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities in Los Angeles. And while Nintendo Co.’s Wii console is getting most of the industry buzz, and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) has racked up big sales in its year on the market, some say the PS2 might even beat out each of those offerings in 2007. “The PS2 probably has the capacity to sell more than any other gaming” console, says Simon Jeffrey, chief operating officer at game maker Sega of America (see BusinessWeek.com, 12/28/07, “Sega Games the Systems”).

[CHINA] SINGER PU SHU DIVORCE NEWS ARE FALSE

In today’s CRIEnglish.com, a close friend of Pu Shu and his wife Xiaomin has came out saying that rumors of Pu Shu divorcing is wife are false. The rumors stemmed from rumors that Pu Shu was planning to divorce his wife to have a relationship with Chinese star athlete Liu Xuan.

[CHINA] NO NYOTAIMORI AT THIS RESTAURANT

In a recent article on CRIEnglish.com, a restaurant owner in China has been fined for ads showing a naked woman with food on her belly. The restaurant owner felt they could drum up more business for the restaurant but do not practice in Nyotaimori.
The act of Nyotaimori (eating sushi off a woman, often naked) is banned in China.

[JAPAN] ENTERTAINER VISA-HOLDERS DECREASED IN 2006

In today’s article of the Japan Times, the strengthening of rules for foreign entertainers decreased the amount of visa holders by entertainers in 2006.
According to the article, “The number of entertainer visas issued by Japan is estimated to have fallen by more than 70 percent from a peak of 140,000 in 2004 to 40,000 this year after visa rules were tightened, according to data released Thursday by the Foreign Ministry.”

[CHINA] SINGER INVOLVED IN CONTROVERSY IF THE RICH ARE CHALLENGING CHINA’S ONE CHILD FAMILY POLICY

According to today’s article from CRIEnglish.com, Mao Amin, a singer, gave birth to a boy on Sunday at a Shanghai hospital.
The problem is that in China, the family planning policy allows for couples to have one child. The policy was established to curtail the rising population in China. According to the policy as mentioned on the CRIEnglish.com article, “The family planning policy stipulates that an urban couple, if both husband and wife are only children, can have a second child and impoverished farmers can have a second if their first child is a girl.”
Those who have broke the rules have had to pay fine. But the question arises if loopholes allow the rich to get away with having a second child, while other’s can’t. Many couples have their children in another country as a way to have more than one children.

[JAPAN] MISONO SHOWS OFF WEIGHT LOSS AFTER THREE MONTHS OF DIET AND EXERCISE

Day After Tomorrow lead vocalist and also younger sister of Koda Kumi, Misono (22) decided to take on a challenge to see if the singer could lose the weight that she gained over the past year. In conjunction with Avex and also the Takano Yuri Beauty Clinic held the “Girl Meets Beauty” campaign.
Misono told media back then that she was the type that could eat and gain weight easily and the media started asking her if she can bring her weight down and be as skinny as her older sister Kumi.
On September 28th, the singer underwent the hard training to shed the weight. Taking a near nude photo of the singer at 124 pounds (56.2 kilograms) and released to media on September 28th. On December 28th, a thinner Misono appeared to the media shedding 16 pounds and is now down to 108 pounds (48.5 kilograms).
When asked how she lost the weight, Misono said that she would wake up at 8:00 in the morning, plan her day of the foods she was going to eat and also worked hard at the gym.
Misono also told media that she would love to do a collaboration with her sister and also a release of her new CD single will be in February titled “Hot Time/A ~Answer”
At the press conference, Misono told the press that she would like to continue to keep fit and be at 10% body fat next year.
