DVD REVIEW:
This anime is one of the popular TV anime series to come from Japan in the late 90’s. Once you buy this DVD, you will have to commit yourself to buying more and more including the movies. In other words, commit to stay and watch the whole series.
I watched this series when it first came out in Japan and I remember the buzz from anime fans of how they loved the series.
I wish there were more episodes per DVD but since it’s a popular title, ADV Films knows that people are going to buy the DVD nonetheless.
The DVD features the textless opening and ending themes, character profiles and the typical ADV trailers.
Stay in for the long haul and you will enjoy this series.

DVD REVIEW:
This is one of those films that is not necessarily a great film, in fact some may see it as corny but yet you fall in love with it. “Needing You” is a loveable film about two characters. One is a hard working businessman who is rumored to be a womanizer and the other is Kinki. His assistant who is quite an interesting character. Weird? Maybe. But Sammi Cheng plays this character very well and perhaps this is one of the reasons why you love the movie, both Andy and Sammi are great in this film! If you are a guy, there is something about Sammi’s character (or her) that just simply wants to make you watch this movie and love it!
If anything, the storyline is pretty simple and cool…and funny. But the characters are what enhances this film and again, Andy and Sammi do a great job playing their characters and you really get into the movie. This romantic comedy is just very interesting and you’ll love it!
As for the DVD, I’m so sad that for such a cool film it’s only available via Mei Ah…(sigh)…and that means…zilch on special features. No trailer either. Oh well, the movie is a pretty good love story and the DVD is the way to go! If you like this movie, make sure you check out another cool romantic comedy from this year titled “and i hate you so”.

DVD REVIEW:
Ninja Cadets! aka “Ninja Mono” in Japan is a story that combines the sword busting of Ninja Scroll with the wackiness of Tenchi Muyou. My only problem with this DVD is that there are only two OAV’s and that there will be no more OAV’s afterwards. In other words, you are left with a storyline that begs to have more afterwards. You watch and enjoy the anime but are left saying…I want to watch more!…but for now, there are no plans for more.
As for the video, the quality is really colorful and the video, I’m guessing is only stereo because I didn’t notice anything major ala 5.1.
The extras are pretty interesting with about 11 trailers to other Media-Blasters anime releases and the outtakes are very fun to watch. Also, a 5-minute art gallery. I hope Media-Blasters adds them to all their DVD’s. My only problem is the dubbed voice when you enter each menu. It’s very childlike and it’s obviously the voice for Sakura but I felt I was going to watch a children’s animation and this anime is far from that.
I’m glad they offered the series both in dub and in original Japanese with English subtitles for us purists.
A good DVD but disappointed that the story ended like it did with no future episodes planned at this time.

DVD REVIEW:
I have been an avid watcher of the “Sailor Moon” series for a long time now and I just had to check out the DVD version of the series which includes the Japanese uncut edition which I was happy about.
I must admit that I liked the dubbed version that was on TV but when watching this DVD, I didn’t care for the dub…because Sailor Moon is much enjoyable watching it in Japanese with the subtitles (if you don’t understand Japanese that is).
So, that out of the way, let’s talk about the movie. I remember seeing this movie years ago and I really enjoyed it a lot because it featured the new scouts and also something different with a storyline involving Luna and I enjoyed the storyline.
If anything bothered me the most, it was the video quality. It looks quite dated and I don’t think when I saw it the first time years ago it looked like this. I could be wrong but I thought the movie was more colorful (go into the special features and check out the images from the film). The audio is stereo/mono but I don’t think I recall anything major in terms of the use of awesome sound. If there was one big improvement with this DVD is that they added more to the special features…although it’s not much, it’s good enough. There is a secret feature which you will have to find for yourself, here’s a hint: Luna.
If there is one thing that I am happy about these DVD releases of the Sailor Moon movies is that you can see the difference between the English and the original Japanese versions in terms of storyline and for those who watch this movie via dubbed only, will miss out on one heck of a cool storyline ala original Japanese (with the options of English subtitles, of course).
Otherwise a good DVD. I hope to see more special features in the next Sailor Moon Super S DVD.

So, that out of the way, let’s talk about the movie. The movie is actually pretty good. Touching in some areas and it’ll maybe make you want to cry. When people buy this, they may think they can just buy this for their kids but if you want to explain to your children about homosexuality references and so forth, then go ahead and buy it.
The only disappointing thing for me is the sound. Why is the movie done in mono? Oh well…
The special features features the image gallery and character information which is something that should be on most if not all anime DVD’s with a large character cast. I am glad they included both languages for the purists and the dub fans.
Check out Sailor Moon R, you’ll most likely dig it!

DVD REVIEW:
What an original dark comedy! A woman traumatized after seeing her husband murdered while watching her favorite soap then suffers from post-traumatic stress and ends up thinking that the soap opera is real and heads to California to find her soap opera boyfriend/character David (Kinnear).
The last time we seen a weird fan thinking a soap was real was on “Friends” with Brooke Shields character. But in this one, Renée Zellweger plays the character of Betty as a caring person and her performance is awesome! I don’t think I know any actress who could of played that part. She was perfectly cast.
The duo of Freeman and Rock was also awesome! Chris Rock plays a different character compared to his other movies and both performances were remarkable as with Kinnear’s performance as the soap opera actor.
The DVD features good digital 5.1 audio but since it’s a dialogue film, you shouldn’t expect much. As for video, the video is nice but some areas look a bit too reddish/orange. I wasn’t sure if it was the intended lighting.
As for the special features, the deleted scenes were a shock. The scenes show how ruthless Chris Rock’s character really is and also a scene that was cut because of its violence. My favorite special feature is the soap opera clips. To see Sung Hi Lee was awesome! As for the two different commentary, it was a blast to hear the cast commentary with the director. Everyone was having fun and not too much dead air. Last, there is the movie trailer and a plethora of TV trailers.
All in all, a film that is enjoyable and if you like dark comedies like Fargo, you will like this film and the DVD.

DVD REVIEW:
I have to admit that I was curious about this DVD. It has gotten the thumbs up from Roger Ebert and a comment from the LA Times but one of the things that prevented me from purchasing this DVD is the lack of any special feature. For any DVD purchaser, a DVD with hardly anything is bad but for a movie purchaser, you just hope that the price you pay for the DVD that the movie is worth watching. “my son the fanatic” is one of those movies that I have to say…is worth watching.
For many foreign immigrants, a battle between the old and the young is the teachings of the old country and the accepting of the country you now live in. I lived through it with my own family but the thing with this movie, the son is the one who wants to go back to the conservative beliefs of Pakistan and the father that left the country to have a better life.
That was interesting to me and the way the movie played the friction between the family and the sort of lost soul, Parvez confused and not knowing how to deal with his son until he is forced too. His love for his family but also knowing what he wants and why he left his country is interesting.
You also see a little of the racial tension in this movie which I’m glad they covered in the movie.
Overall, this movie between beliefs, loyalty and moral decisions is where I give the movie it’s credits and how it approaches each of them. Parvez is taken from one point to the other really quickly and you wonder if this poor man would go mad.
A really good movie but unfortunately, this is a DVD review. The color is fine and since it’s a dialogue movie, you’re not going to hear special effects. The low point of this DVD which scores this slightly above average movie is the DVD itself. No extras, no special features and one of the few times I give a DVD on it’s lack of extras an F. No trailers, nothing. If you want to see a pretty cool movie on clash of cultures, I recommend this movie on DVD but if extras concern you, the DVD will be a letdown.

DVD REVIEW:
I didn’t watch the movie in the theater because I figured that it’s one of those children movies and I probably won’t enjoy it. After reading about three reviews on Amazon.com and the good reviews from the viewers (dog lovers) out there, I had to give it a try.
My wife and myself watched the movie with our two dogs sitting next to us. We love our dogs but I wanted to watch the movie not because of the story of a boy and his dog (I could have watched “Ben”) but because I wanted to see this touching story and the relationship one has with their pets, that’s what I was interested in.
After we were done watching, we were both in tears. I looked at my two dogs and it reminded me of how much these pets are a part of our lives. The storyline of a kid who is bullied and how his dog helps him through his young life and eventually gains friends to the last 15 minutes which will nearly shatter your heart. An emotional roller coaster this movie is.
Ok…as for the DVD, the audio is mostly dialogue but the rear speakers are used pretty well. Especially during the baseball game. The video is clear and the colors are good. As for the special features, you get two feature-length audio commentaries. One with Frankie Muniz and animal trainer Mathilde DeCagney and the other with director Jay Russell. It was cool to see the deleted scenes and part of me wishes they left it in and I wish the director elaborated why he removed them from the movie. And of course, the ever loveable trailer and scene selections which I don’t count as special features (all DVD’s should have those).
All in all, “My Dog Skip” is a wonderful movie. I recommend this movie to all dog lovers. Those who dislike canines or any pets would probably not watch this movie anyway… Highly recommended for the dog lovers and remember to have the tissue box nearby.

When the OAV’s came out back in 1993 or so, I fell in love with this anime.
Moldiver has a very good storyline combining superhero fantasy and romance.
As for the DVD, I don’t know…for some reason I thought things were sharper on my LD than on DVD but I can be wrong. The audio is typical for it’s time.
The big bonus is the special that was included on the Japanese LD version. Some people I know paid big bucks just for that special and now here are all six OAV’s + the special in one DVD.
When I first bought the LD’s they were like $39 for one oav. You get all episodes for $17.99. That’s one heck of a bargain!
