Dennis A. Amith interviews Mia Crowe - Page 2 (2002)

Continued from Page 1

DENNIS: Let's talk about your segment titled "SUPERSKIRTZ" for TNN's "POP ACROSS AMERICA". For those who don't know much about the show. Can you tell us what your role is in the segment?
MIA: The show is a traveling talk show and we are a segment of the show that features hidden camera pranks where me and three other girls travel to different cities across America. For example, there was one segment in Washington D.C. titled "PC in DC?" We wanted to see how politically correct the area was and so I dressed up in a pregnancy pad and we went to a local bar where we set up hidden cameras and I started ordering beer, doing shots and people were doing shots with me and smoking. We thought that this is a conservative area that people would come up to me and tell me not to drink or smoke because I was pregnant but only one person among 50 people told me to not drink and he was the bartender.

DENNIS: What was the most provocative thing that you have done on the show.
MIA: Probably in Chicago where we did a segment called "naked pizza" and we ordered pizza all over Chicago. The four of us were watching sports on television naked.

DENNIS: Not fully naked right?
MIA: Yes, fully naked.

DENNIS: Ehh?
MIA: Yes, when the delivery guy came with the pizza, we would say that we needed to get change, so we would all walk around the room naked. You see, we wanted to test that male fantasy of arriving to deliver pizzas with four girls nude who are acting like everything is normal. We acted like we had clothes on. Most guys would say, "If that was me I would have tried to get some action." But we knew that was just all talk and we proved that because these delivery guys were scared to death. I think they thought we were aliens from another planet or something.

DENNIS: Wait a minute. All of you were actually all naked in front of many of these pizza delivery guys?
MIA:
Yes, we were totally naked. We were scared.

DENNIS: So, these pizza delivery guys had the pleasure of seeing you all naked.
MIA: Pleasure? They were not in pleasure. They were in so much shock. They didn't know what to do. They were ghostly white. We had to do everything we could to make them look up.

DENNIS: You know...you do that in Los Angeles and the guys would definitely give a different reaction.
MIA:
We actually tried this first in Los Angeles and got the same response.

DENNIS: What did your parents say about this "Chicago Pizza" segment?
MIA:
My parents thought it was funny. I have a religious family and I showed my family and my relatives during Thanksgiving footage from this segment and they thought it was funny. Of course, all of our private parts are blocked out on the footage.

DENNIS: What is the most embarrasing moment on the show?
MIA: We did a segment called "Bigger and Better". How people would react to a person with gigantic boobs. I would have these huge double F's and I would have cakes in both hands and would ask people if they can pick up my keys. They would look down but I would motion with my chin that the keys fell inside my shirt. They would be mortified.

DENNIS: Did people reach in and get your keys?
MIA: Some, but most ran away. People were scared.

DENNIS: So, what projects are you working on right now? Will you be filming the new season very soon?
MIA: I'm currently working on two projects. "Pop Across America" and "Superskirtz". We finished shooting the project and it's currently airing right now on TNN on Fridays at midnight. Right now we are shooting a pilot for a television show tentatively called called "Skirtz".

DENNIS: You were recently on a movie called "Being Ron Jeremy". A spoof on "Being John Malkovich". Isn't Ron Jeremy a porn star?
MIA: Yes. The movie is a spoof on "Being John Malkovich". It is about a guy who finds a portal into the mind of Ron Jeremy. And the guy and his co-worker, who I play, sell tickets so that people can enter the mind of Ron Jeremy until he farts and spews them out on the side of the road.

DENNIS: How was it like to work with Ron Jeremy?
MIA: He is the nicest man and a professional actor. He has an MBA and is an extremely well educated man. He was great to work with.

DENNIS: If there was one actor you would like to work with, who would that be?
MIA: Probably Jennifer Jason Leigh. Every movie that I have seen her on, she plays these multi-dimension characters. She's an amazing actress and I never get tired of watching her movie "Single White Female". She redefines herself in every role.

DENNIS: What is the most satisfying aspect of being an Asian American actress?
MIA: Expressing myself artistically. Working in a career field that I have trained very hard to be a part of.

DENNIS: What is the most frustrating aspect of being an Asian American actress?
MIA: You know when you see people who have to play token roles on television? I feel like we are at that level that there are not enough roles for me that show Asian Americans as average American people. You only see our groups playing hookers, manicurists and very stereotypical roles. Everyone knows that we have come a long way in that there isn't anyone who could get away with doing "black face". However MAD TV gets away with a Caucasian actor doing "yellow face" and I'm disgusted. I'm even more frustrated that more Asian Americans aren't standing up and saying that this is not okay! Why be offended in silence?

DENNIS: If there was a major movie that wanted you to do the usual one minute nude prostitute or erotic dancer scene, would you do it?
MIA: Gratuitous nudity is not what I choose to do. I'm not saying I would never do nudity but it would have to make sense to the story of the script or else it would be pointless and become a free peepshow.

DENNIS: Let's talk about your work as a model. You have a very long list of accomplishments, especially as a hand and foot model. Not many people know it but for people fortunate to get that modeling job, it pays extremely well. How did you get involved with that?
MIA: I Was doing a commercial as an actress for a washing machine and they needed hand models. While the girls who were auditioning for the job showed up on the set, I showed the producer my hands to see if I could do it. I ended up having the best hands and got the job. From there it just snowballed because as you know all the people on the set had done about ten commercials as a hand model. I went and took pictures of my hands. My hands had a photo shoot. I submitted them to an agent and got signed. And that's how I got started as a hand model in the business. Virtually booking every job my agent sent me on.

DENNIS: OK, let's get to know more about Mia Crowe outside acting and music. If there was one word to describe yourself, what word would that be and why?
MIA: Tenacious. I'm the girl driven to reach out her arm and grab for the brass ring. If I want to accomplish something I will exhaust all avenues to reach my goal. I don't always exactly reach my goals, but I'm satisfied that I reached out as far as I was able to and made the effort to get what I want. There are a lot of armchair dreamers out there and when you realize that nobody is going to just "offer" you exactly what you want and that "luck" is really just preparation plus opportunity. I believe that the only choice of true action is to go for it!

DENNIS: Reading your bio, you seem to be a daring "no fear" type of person. Are you brave enough to be on the show "FEAR FACTOR"?
MIA: I don't know about that! I do think of myself as somebody who is daring but I'm very afraid of heights! And a lot of the stunts on that show have to do with heights! Also, I don't think I could eat the stuff they have on the show! Last time I saw it they were making people drink Margaritas made of bile, bull testicles and one strawberry. I would throw up for sure!
