Movie Synopsis:

A Japanese lingerie company, known for their ''W'' mark, needs a fresh new look. So, the all-female staff decides to get some insight from the opposite sex. Samantha (Carina Lau), the chief executive of the Hong Kong branch, hires Cools (Louis Koo) and Johnny (Lau Ching Wan). Lena (Gigi Leung), the company's designer, is a smart and likeable character. She's good at what she does and is confident about her work. As the supervisor of the only male employees, she is critical of them and often disagrees with the their ideas. But gradually, Lena is touched by Cools' determination and the two fall for one another. In one scene, he asks her what the most comfortable bra should look like. She puts his hands on her chest and says, ''the touch of a man''. Cools tells Johnny this, and the duo vow to design the best bra in the world...

DVD REVIEW:

I don't think I have watched an HK movie that can make me laugh many times and "La Brassiere" does just that.

It's a romantic, comedy that actually is pretty damn good!

The characters from each of the four main actors Louis Koo, Gigi Leung, Lau Ching Wan and Carina Lau were nicely done and the appearances by Stephen Fung, Karen Mok and others added another spark to enjoy the movie.

Sure, the plot of two men hired by a lingerie company to get a male perspective in order to make the "ultimate bra" may sound a bit too weird and too see many women wearing their bra's may put some people off but there is a good balance of humor and embarassment that both men and women will enjoy this movie.

If there is one thing I truly enjoy was what appears to be actual improvisation by Louis Koo and Wau Ching Wan. It appears the director wanted to get a natural response from the men and the actions that they do and the words that come out of their mouth are genuine expressions that make the movie so enjoyable. Also, to hear Gigi Leung's humming and laughing was cute as well. It's nice to see her again in a romantic comedy like this.

I haven't been too happy with China Star Entertainment Group's DVD's in terms of special features for awhile (example: Failan) but I have enjoyed what they did with "Legend of Zu" and with "La Brassiere". They not only give you the typical trailer and cast information but six outtakes/deleted scenes and a 4-minute making of. Sure, it's not much but compared to what they have on previous DVD's, you take what you can get and I'm quite happy with the DVD and packaging. Especially the menu system. So, hopefully they will continue this trend with their other DVD's in the near future.

NOTE: The DVD sports the "WIDESCREEN" on the front, I played the DVD on my APEX DVD player and it was pan and scan and the movie seemed stretched out. I then tried it on my PS2 and it worked. So, different DVD players might interpret this DVD differently. [From Kev T: The La Brassiere DVD is widescreen. You have set your tv to widescreen enhanced mode to be able to watch it as the dvd is encoded in anamorphic widescreen. As a result La Brassiere picture quality is really good and on par with some hollywood discs. All Chinastar DVDs are released in Widescreen anamorphic these days.]

All in all an enjoyable movie and if you are in a mood to laugh and have a good time, "La Brassiere" is a DVD worth purchasing.
