REVIEW:
"Bullets of Love" starring HK's Leon Lai
and Japan's drama actress Asaka Seto. A movie that has a theme
that has been done many times but with a SHIRI-like twist.
Leon Lai plays a policeman named Sam who captures
a triad leader. Representing the police officer is his laywer
girlfriend Anne who is played by Seto who speaks Chinese (someone
is doing her voice). The two are hopeless romantics and the beginning
of the story focuses on their love. Which is unfortunately cut
short when the triad has a female assassin who guns down Anne
down.
Years later Sam (who is still trying to recuperate
from his girlfriend's death) finds a Japanese photographer named
You who looks like Anne but speaks Japanese and so forth.
He starts to have a relationship with her but who
is this mysterious You?
The movie has it's moments and it's actually quite
entertaining until it gets to the final fifteen minutes. I'll
just say "was all those deaths necessary?" Sure, we
have to hate the criminals but did everyone have to die? Well,
if you are an HK movie buff, these things always happen.
Second, this is another HK/JAPAN movie featuring
two popular actors from their respective country. Asaka Seto does
a great job but her English is not so good but you get used to
it. Someone doing the Chinese voice over was a bit weird but I
got used to it.
Compared to many HK/JAPAN collaborations, I really
did enjoy this movie but to force Japanese actresses to speak
English when it appears to be too difficult for them is something
that may have to be rethought.
As for the DVD, the DVD was nice but I was a bit
dissapointed with the Deltamac DVD when it came to special features.
Mainly none with the exception of an MTV which cuts off after
the first minute. What is up with that?
Needless to say I'm more dissapointed with the presentation
of this DVD and there has been so much publicity with Lai and
Seto that there could have been more included on this DVD.
Again, an enjoyable movie but a dissapointing DVD.
