REVIEW: When I first received this DVD, a few things
came to mind. The US bomb "Rockstars" or the popular "Almost Famous"
but I figured, there's no chance in heck will I see an HK movie with a serious
music plot if it has the cheese factor included with it. Well,
I just have to say that "Beijing Rocks" is different from most HK movies
that you will see. Serious. Yes. Worth watching. Uh-huh! It's pretty good. The
movie focuses on three characters. Michael from Hong-Kong who was raised in the
US is a singer-songwriter-musician but something from his past keeps him in Hong
Kong. He goes to Beijing and finds a rock group which consists of lead vocalist,
Road. A charismatic, impatient person (Le) who is dating Yang Yin (Qi). Michael
joins the band as they travel and to make their journey to become professional
rock band and try to get a recording contract. This movie
is of course, more than that. There is the love triangle, the challenges of trying
to succeed and the battle within one's self. As for the DVD,
the DVD looks great and the music sounds great but more impressive are the special
features which include an alternate ending, a music video and a featurette (albeit
no English subtitles) and your usual cast information. I expected
more than I expected and that's good. Very good performances
from the three and you can see Daniel Wu and Shu Qi getting better which each
movie. I've never seen Geng Le before in a movie but from what I have seen, the
guy has a lot of potential. Check it out! THE
