DVD REVIEW:
A movie released on
Valentine's Day of 2001 in Hong Kong. The movie features
Uncle Jet and Chanty who are from a Hakka village in Yuen Long.
With the many dialects in China, this is one of them and thus
their way of life from everyone listens to the eldest no matter
how old you are now was interesting to see.
Anyway, the premise
of the love story is that a girl has been waiting for her boyfriends
letters (99 of them) and she never gets them. Uncle Jet noticed
that the old tenants left them in his apartment before they moved
and he reads each letters not knowing the girl that lives next
to them is Lok To (Reis). He feels bad for what he has done
that he goes all out to bring Lok To and her boyfriend Gala together.
Unfortunately, Uncle Jet starts to develop feelings for Lok To.
What is a man to do? The spin to this is that since Uncle
Jet is a guy with outstanding morals from his village, he does
things differently than you would expect from most men.
Also, Francis Ng does a great job in playing another role instead
of gangster triad or somewhat underground related characters.
Although the movie was
fun to watch, there are some problems with pace. I think
things jumped around quickly especially with the friendship of
Uncle and Lok To. Also, the placement of final scene seems
out of place. Where in the movie "Feel 100% II",
they stuck perhaps an important deleted scene after the movies
end. In "Bakery Amour" right at the end where
you expect it to end, they switch back to a certain scene which
explains something that happened previously. Sounds a little
confusing but if you watch this movie, I think you will know what
I mean.
The DVD is Universe
and comes with two trailers, synopsis and character info.
The movie's video was letterboxed and looks beautiful but for
a movie that's very new, I expected brilliant colors but maybe
I'm just being picky. As for audio, interesting rear speaker
use with the dialogue and the doorbell.
Otherwise "Bakery
Amour" is a good movie. I enjoyed "and i hate
you so", "needing you" even more but "Bakery
Amour" is still a good romance movie.
