Anime Synopsis:

Brilliant surgeon Ukyo Retsu performs an operation to remove a cancer from a mysterious old woman. The cancer turns out to be a 5000-year-old demon, a dark messenger from Japanís ancient past heralding a demonic invasion of the Earth. Ukyo travels to the remains of an ancient city where he finds a gateway in time, which enables him to travel back 5000 years. There he discovers a race of demons that are planning to travel to the present in order to destroy mankind. Based on an adaptation of Yasuaki Kadotaís Sci-Fi novel, Japanese director Tetsuo Imazawa creates a visual spectacle of action, drama and suspense in this chilling supernatural anime thriller.

DVD REVIEW:

"Psychic Wars" is a movie about a doctor who removes a cancer from an old woman. This cancer happens to be a 5,000 year old demon who lived in an era where the demons tried to exterminate every human.

Well, they are given that opportunity again but this time they need to go against the doctor, Ukyo Retsu who is given special powers and is seen as the human race's weapon against the demons.

"Psychic Wars" combines violence, humor and the kind of things you would see in Hong Kong films as Ukyo must go through different times, love, betrayal and a life of trying to eradicate all demons in order for humans to live.

It's sounds a bit hoaky but this anime which was created in 1991 still has enough punch to entertain the fans who love sex and violence with a little of HK science fiction style tidbits.

Similar to "Vampire Wars", I happened to like the English dub more than the Japanese dialogue version (this is coming from a Japanese language enthusiast). Also, it's nice to hear it in Digital 5.1 as well.

As for DVD special features, only the Manga trailers and that's pretty much it.

All in all an interesting anime featuring a demon queen who wants nothing but to mate with a smart man. Also, a man's destiny to take down many demons even if it means kicking them in the balls.
