Mama no Idenshi (Mama's Genes) [from Wm. Penn, Daily Yomiuri, September 19, 2002]: Hiroko Yakushimaru and Takaya Kamikawa are a happily married couple whose life begins to change when they move in with his parents. Mother-in-law problems are exacerbated when the couple's son begins to have trouble with his studies and the in-laws blame his problems on the genes he inherited from his mother. She sets out to avenge herself through the education mama, ultra-cramming route. [Kiku TV synopsis]: Hiroko Yakushimaru plays Nanami, a 35-year-old wife and mother, trying to come to grips with her wants and needs--a job, a better relationship with her mother-in-law; good schools for her children. She and her husband Wataru (Kamikawa Takaya) live in a suburb of Tokyo with their three little children. Wataru's father (Ryu Raita) offers them a chance to save some money by moving in with him and his wife. Although Nanami doesn't get along very well with her mother-in-law (Sawada Ayako), she lets the prospect of having Wataru's mom look after the kids so that she can go out and find a job persuade her to agree to the move. Little does she realize the host of problems that move would create. STARRING:
