Love Revolution

By Wm. Penn (Daily Yomiuri): Makiko Esumi plays a smart, talented 32-year-old doctor. Everyone around her thinks she has no need for a man in her life but she seems to think so. So when she visits the church of St. Valentine in Rome with her flight attendant pal, they pray for love. A woman dressed up like the witch in "Snow White" waits for them outside the door to predict Makiko will soon be riding up to the church in a bridal carriage.

Back in Tokyo, the subplots get more complicated. After saving the chubby owner of an exclusive Italian restaurant from a nasty gastritis attack on the plane, he introduces her to the secretary of a Diet member and a struggling actor-cum-bartender. Then there is the crafty news reporter (more aggressive than any we have seen of late) who is after the inside scandal scoop on the Diet member. He is determined to get it anyway he can, even if it means passionately kissing a stranger (Makiko) in the hospital hallway.

[FUJI TV Synopsis]: A romantic comedy about women in their 30's For everyone who still remembers "Suteki na Kataomoi," "Tokyo Love Story," "101st Proposal," prepare yourselves for even more of those same touching moments again. Breaking the tradition of the main character for a Monday night drama being a woman in her 20's, Makiko Esumi stars as Kyoko Asaoka, a 32-year-old heart surgeon working at a hospital in Tokyo. Men tend to shy away from the tall, well-educated and well-paid Kyoko because they see her as a woman that can do things on her own. The truth of the matter is that Kyoko is just unlucky in love. She is also old-fashioned, and wants to fall in love just like anyone else, but has a hard time showing her real self to men.

STARRING: Esumi Makiko, Yonekura Ryoko, Fujiki Naohito, Oshio Manabu, Sakai Miki, Yamamoto Keeichi, Yamazaki Ginnojo, Toda Maiko, Matsumoto Rumi, Nishioka Tokuma and more.

REVIEWS:

[From Rick Frankum] The biggest letdown of the year. The boy gets the girl, but throughout the series we've seen that the boy isn't worth getting. Not only that, but these oh-so-ambitious characters give up their day jobs to do it. (0 stars)
