WHAT IS "FURUHATA NINSABURO" ALL ABOUT:  This series is different from the past detective stories. The Lieutenant is collection of true mystery stories in which the detective, Ninsaburo Furuhata, must solve ingenious crimes and outwit elusive criminals. Although Ninsaburo Furuhata is a government officer, he does not wear a tie.

Although he specializes in murder cases, he does not carry a gun. He does not use violence. More than anything, Ninsaburo Furuhata conducts himself as a gentleman, and uncovers the tricks which outwitting genius criminals play by cool reasoning and smooth talking. In every episode, Ninsaburo Furuhata will introduce a different criminal in his memory, and share his experience tracking and interacting with these criminals.

[SEASON 2 SYNOPSIS]: The continuing detective drama of Lieutenant Furuhata, a detective who dresses casually and prefers outsmarting criminals to using a gun. In this unique theater style drama, the lieutenant will occasionally let the audience in on his thinking by speaking directly to the camera. Lieutenant Furuhata battles wits with a different cunning criminal in each of the 11 episodes.

STARRING: Tamura Masakazu, Nishimura Masahiko and Each week there is a special guest star who is usually the suspect of the murder. Stars like Akashiya Sanma, Sawaguchi Yasuko, Kimura Takuya, Yamaguchi Tomoko, Karasawa Toshiaki, Suzuki Honami and more.
DURATION: There has been three series of this drama and several specials. Series 1 is from January through March 1996. Series 2 is April through June 1999. In January 1999, the special was "Furuhata Ninsaburo vs. SMAP".
