DanDori (Dance Drill)

Excerpt from Televiews, July 26, 2006, Wm. Penn, Daily Yomiuri: Fuji has the most promising high school offering this quarter in DanDori, which is short for Dansu Doriru (Dance Drill).

It is loosely based on the story of the Kanagawa prefectural Atsugi High School cheerleading team that made it all the way to the U.S. grand prix competition.

It is one of those rare hopeful high school dramas where the teens still boast adolescent interests and desires and the future is full of possibilities even for a team that started out in Episode 1 as a rather pathetic-looking little group of pom-pom wavers. There is also a subplot linking their hapless homeroom teacher, who happens to be the son of the head of a traditional school of Japanese dance, and the top dancer his parents would like to see him marry.

Not too bad and a good way to get some vicarious exercise in this heat.
