Bengoshi no Kuzu

[Excerpt from Televiews, April 27, 2006 - Wm. Penn, Daily Yomiuri]: I suppose that is not much worse than watching Etsushi Toyokawa prance about in heart-print boxer shorts on Bengoshi no Kuzu (TBS Network, Thursday, 10 p.m.). He plays attorney Kuzu, a clever lawyer who investigates his cases while projecting a silly, playboy persona. This drama is an example of a weak script kept afloat by a strong cast, including Reiko Takashima and Hideaki Ito, who play the more sensible lawyers in the firm.

Fans of Toyokawa's early career will shudder when they see the attractive star of Aoi Tori and Ai Shite Iru To Itte Kure has sunk to having his hair permed, a bandage plastered on his nose (when he's not picking it) and generally acting the fool. Or maybe it is just the sign of a confident actor who is not afraid to take such an out-of-character role. He brings it off, but just barely. One star for sheer effort.
