Aishisuginakute Yokatta (An Easy Feeling of relief)

Even TV Asahi, which has never had much luck with dramas, may have a hit on its hands this quarter. Scriptwriter Makiko Uchidate is also trying to instill a little realism into the winter lineup with her far-from-fairy-tale romance Aishisuginakute Yokatta (Thursdays at 9 p.m.). Uchidate, who put in a long stint as an office worker before finding her true calling, has a knack for provocative dialogue and for vividly portraying women in search of an elusive dream.

Noriyuki Higashiyama stars as a playboy who is not about to be caught, and relative newcomer, Ryo, is the naive young woman who dreams of eventually ensnaring him even if she must sit back and watch him cavort with a string of other women and act like his mother, too. Actually, come to think of it, this is not a very realistic offering considering the cast never considers AIDS. But will this story turn into a fairy tale after all? Will she win this questionable prize in the end or does the title, "Good Thing I Didn't Love Him Too Much," tell it all? Probably not worth watching, but it is hard to turn off.

A story of a woman who loves a guy but he has many girlfriends and just recently divorced

Starring: Higashiyama Noriyuki. Kuroki Hitomi and RYO.
DURATION: January 8, 1998 through March 19, 1998.  11 episodes.
REVIEWS:

Let's just say that this drama does wonders if you want to fall asleep.  I don't know why they keep giving Ryo, main character leads.   She doesn't seem right for this drama. - KNDY
